Hostile Working Conditions

See, I don’t think we’ve seen enough cute doggie — or fish — pictures lately, so I thought I’d pick up on Eric’s slack. (grin)  Of course, this means CV, a staunch dog blog, is being taken over by the cat-blogging side.

Frankly, the internet consists of fifty percent cute kitteh pictures and fifty percent Heinlein flame wars.  I serve you up the cute kitteh pics today, on the promise of Heinlein flame wars tomorrow.

Hostile working conditions

Help, help, I’m being oppressed!

(Yes, those are little platforms that pull out on either side of the desk.  Yes, D’Artagnan [left] and Havelock [right] think they’re there so they can supervise me.  No, I can’t argue with them.  They’re CATS.)

Update: my older son pointed out that’s only the part of the internet that you can read while retaining the use of both hands — i.e. no porn or onanism-inducing politics. ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re not the only one being oppressed today!

Is Havelock named after the character in Donaldson’s Mordant’s Need books?

My guess (given the p r 0 n reference) is Havelock Ellis.

  4. Hortensio Avatar

I’ve got my money on Pratchett’s Havelock Vetinari as the inspiration.

Ah, Hortensio wins. Havelock is the Patrician’s namesake: http://www.ask.com/wiki/Havelock_Vetinari
Mind you, when we got him he looked skinny and slinky and very much like the patrician. Then we fed him… Turned out the poor kitten was very young and starved. (He’d been living in a mini golf course, as far as we can tell from bugs and feature water.) Now he’s a big, fluffy ball of meows. BUT he’s still very demanding and regal, so perhaps it fits.

My only question is: how do you keep them off the keyboard?

    Kathy,
It’s a cold war situation (Yeah, I too am a war monger. Sigh.) These are the two fuzzy alpha males. If one of them tries to get on the keyboard, the other one attacks. So, they equidistant but equal! (They’re also two sides of a gay love triangle with the third boy-cat Euclid. But that might be two weird even for CV. Yeah, I DO have a female cat also, but… er… she’s ignored.)

Our vet, btw, says this is us misinterpreting dominance behavior. Trust me, it’s not. It’s not even the mutual oral I mind, while I’m working, it’s the little sighs and moans that accompany it. It’s truly bizarre. Eh. Maybe I’ll continue the feline invasion by posting cute curled up together pictures of the love triangle. ๐Ÿ™‚
