Insanity Or ?

I was reading the comments at support for legalization at 52% and came across this comment.

Several States in the American Union have legalized the recreational use of marijuana even with studies stating that this drug leads to use of even more dangerous addictions. How safe is your life, liberty and property if your neighbors are intoxicated, doped up, and mentally impaired, and being so addicted, they are dependent on the State’s permission to feed their habit. Certainly, their vote, a delegation of sovereign authority, will be used to raise up and maintain wicked magistrates who will support their habits. Vattel in The Law of Nations writes, ” But if they (public magistrates) corrupt the morals of the people, spread a taste for luxury, effeminacy, a rage for licentious pleasures…beware, citizens! beware of those corruptors! they only aim at purchasing slaves in order to exercise over them an arbitrary sway.” pg 150 The foundation of democracy is virtue. The virtue of the people is the internal law that results in good behavior which is the beginning of self government in a federal republic. However, if the people become corrupted we go from self government to “survival of the fittest”, from a democracy to a mobocracy, and from the mob a strong man must rise who is called a dictator

So out of legal marijuana we will get a dictatorship? Interesting. However, the Federal Government opposes the will of the people. Thus no dictatorship is currently possible.

BTW I replied to his comment with: “All very good reasons for banning alcohol. It is a pity that there is not much support for that.”

“All very good reasons for banning alcohol. It is a pity that there is not much support for that.”

Sarcasm becomes you. But not me. Alcohol (admittedly a much more harmful drug – but also with medicinal value–yes it has…) prohibition was tried. And failed.

So they tried other drugs in a different way, after all, if they’d done it legally (via Constitutional amendment), we the people might (horrors) do the same thing again.

Heaven forbid that the people ever have the power to veto the government. Can’t risk that again, yanno. LOTS of money lost the last time that happened.

(Ok. Maybe I can’t do sarcasm, but I’m pretty good at recognizing irony.)

The majority of most studies tell us that marijuana is not a “gateway drug.”

Insane and incoherent enough to be an argument for banning anything. I say we ban hyperspacial unicorns. Before they ban us!

Unicorns would actually be a nice fight-back against Obamacare, per legend, they could heal all ills. Unlike Obamacare, which (from reports I’ve been getting from fellow caregivers, is focused on killing all ills.) No, not kidding – people are being kicked out of hospice, nursing homes. So far, idiots like me and my “I’ll take care of him, dammit, even if it kills me” home-care slaves are not (YET) being affected – probably because we are a lot cheaper. Plus we have a good chance of killing 2 birds with one stone – a lot of caregivers die before those they care for. Good for medicare and medicaid? We won’t be around…and once we are gone, they are in the hands of the government’s infinite mercy. (/sarc off)

I love such convoluted thinking. It could be said about any number of legal things, especially food.
