“Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States?”

While I lost my temper a little the other night, a reminder today about the sheer petty-mindedness of our president on the gun control issue made me think I wasn’t mad enough.

Europhile pacifist that he is, the man does not believe in the right of self defense.

As a state senator in Illinois, President Obama opposed legislation providing an exception to handgun restrictions if the weapon was used in the defense of one’s home.

Obama’s vote would have maintained the status quo, which made it a violation of municipal gun ban law to use a firearm to save your own life in your own home. But the bill was passed anyway without his support.

The vote is a sign of how committed Obama may be to strict gun control measures.

Yeah, and it means he has to be fought tooth and nail at every step. Absolute defiance is the only thing he understands. Any attempt at compromise will only embolden him.

Naturally, he also lied and tried to cover up his true record:

Just eight years earlier, in 1996, Obama answered “Yes” to a survey question asking whether he would support state legislation to “ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.” The Obama 2008 presidential campaign claimed the form had been filled out by an aide who mischaracterized Obama’s position, even though Obama’s handwriting was found on survey.

This country has never had a president more opposed to the Second Amendment.    His current course of conduct strikes me as inherently at war with the Constitution.

Has he violated his oath of office, or don’t things like that mean anything anymore?

UPDATE: I probably wasn’t being cynical enough or sarcastic enough, because I am asked whether I am serious.

The Constitution is what whichever faction of the Ruling Party is in control at any given time says it is.

Yeah, but unserious idiots like me enjoy claiming that it is an actual written document that means what it says and that it is, according to its own terms, “the supreme Law of the Land.”

Um. Yeah, but that was only according to the “unserious idiots” who wrote it. (See: “founding fathers”.) Sigh. Good luck.

Eric, the reference was to Nancy Pelosi’s famous crack, not to you.

Hah! I figured something like that, but one famous crack deserves another… Or is this sounding dirty? Thanks for the link! 🙂
