The more Newt Gingrich’s star continues to rise, the more nauseated I become. The biggest problem I have with the man is his support of the death penalty for drug offenses. Under normal circumstances, that would be a deal killer for me. But these are not normal circumstances; we have a president who must be voted out of office.
In short, if Newt Gingrich is the GOP nominee, I will have no choice but to, draaaag myself to the polls, hold my nose, and vote for him, while continuing to mutter “I told you so!” all the way. After all, if he is elected, I can always be unhappy and complain to my heart’s content. This is, after all, a free country, right? And I have been sick of Gingrich for many years, and for many, many, many reasons. I have said even though I would vote for a syphilitic camel over Obama, I would also vote for a syphilitic camel over Gingrich.
Of course, if he isn’t elected, I will also be unhappy and I can just keep complaining, keep saying I told you so, etc.
Perhaps I should just quit thinking about or writing about politics, period. There is nothing I can do or say which is in any way constructive.
And it may never get better.

My anti-Gingrich was on high in 1999.
How To Put An End To Drug Users
Unless something changes before November 2012, I’m voting Independent. I can’t stand Obama but none of the Republicans impress me at all to replace him.
What about Ron Paul? I don’t see you talking much about him and he would seem to be a fairly ideal candidate for us liberals (or libertarians as some call us)
He never seems to get mentioned anywhere. He got 89 seconds in the debate. One newspaper had an article with headlines about 1st and 3rd place never mentioning Paul was in 2nd.
He is currently in 2nd place, behind Cain, in Iowa. It is really a 4 way tie but Paul does lead Romney and Newt by 1-2 points.
He has consistently been in 3rd or 4th place all along all over the US.
Yet he gets dismissed as “fringe”
We need to do more.

Libertarians/liberals have a utopian view of foreign policy. Forgetting that the leadership of most countries could be compared unfavorably to outlaw motorcycle gangs.
JohnAGJ, I strongly urge you to reconsider, and to vote for the “less bad” of the candidates running. That’s what Eric is going to have to do, and myself as well… As a matter of fact, I’ve had to vote for the “less bad” candidate in every single general election since I started voting. I’m used to it by now. If I actually had a candidate to vote FOR for once, I’m not sure I could contain myself.
Long story short–as Bill Whittle says, victory is a ratchet. “Less bad” is still LESS BAD.
And Eric–don’t stop complaining. Your “complaining” keeps many of us awake and on out toes with respect to the gradual erosion of our individual rights. Without your “complaining,” many of us would drift off to sleep, and be consumed by the ever-increasing behemoth of the federal government, instead of struggling to stay awake and fight it.
We NEED your complaining.
Every election since I first voted in 1988 has been phrased this way of voting for the “lesser of two evils”. Why, the very fabric of our civilization hung in the balance if only I’d hold my nose, ignore my principles and vote for Candiate X because Candidate Y was just soooo much worse.
Every. Single. One.
Once again I’m being put into this situation, with some calling me “selfish” and “unpatriotic” because I’m refusing to participate in the game anymore. All I’ve done by continually voting for the “less bad” of the two choices is help perpetuate the problem. I’ve had enough of the lies from both major parties, the corruption, the asinine rhetoric, and encroachments on my liberty. Both the Republicans and the Democrats are proponents of Big Brother. I could care less whether their reasons are for the glory of God or for the sake of the proletariat.
I want a real choice and real candidate I can vote for. I do not want a weasel anymore.
I appreciate the comments and encouragement. As to Ron Paul, I would prefer him over Gingrich, except his numbers will never be high enough to make him the nominee. The reason is that too many people worry about his foreign policy positions.
“But these are not normal circumstances; we have a president who must be voted out of office.

That is the stupidest thing I’ve seen on this blog…by a long shot.
“In short, if Newt Gingrich is the GOP nominee, I will have no choice but to, draaaag myself to the polls, hold my nose, and vote for him,”
No choice? What are you, a man or a servant of the GOP?
“After all, if he is elected, I can always be unhappy and complain to my heart’s content. This is, after all, a free country, right?”
You can complain, but you shouldn’t. If you vote for a winning candidate for president you should blame yourself for everything he does. And no this is not a free country.
“And it may never get better.”
Politics is the business of stealing and killing. It will never get any better.
