Dan Mitchell says the Obama plan for automatic tax increases when Congress overspends is a bad idea. At that rate the government will own us all before long. He has a counter proposal. There are more in the comments. I have one myself.
There is a better way: decimation.
If Congress and the President over spend put their names in an (electronic) hat and hang 10% of them. Live – Pay Per View. It might even raise significant revenue. At least it would pay for the hanging. Pay Go!
There is nothing like imminent demise to focus the mind.

Bless you for using the word “decimate” in the proper way! These days when people say “decimated” (even well educated people), they usually mean “annihilated.”
. . . your fingers to God’s To-Do list . . .
Sounds good to me. However, a less-deadly method of persuasion might be to link instant resignation to any vote for a tax increase. In other words, any congress critter who votes in favor of a tax increase must resign immediately following said vote. After all, for a congress critter, an increase in taxes is a tacit admission that one has failed in one’s job to be a responsible steward of the government’s allowance. (“Allowance” as in, the money you give your kids that they don’t actually earn.)
