Why on earth anyone would want to see such a thing, I don’t know. But it’s some sort of tradition in certain parts of the blogosphere, so this morning I took a picture which is not only The View From My Window, it also doubles as My View of Global Warming.
Yes, it was 13 degrees this morning, and the windows were opaque with ice. Obviously, all that CO2 is simply not doing its job around here.

Even an attorney should understand that a window like that is not properly insulated. Dude, c’mon.
Redding, CA at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, had the lowest temp ever recorded there yesterday morning, 16 F., beating out 17 F in 1972.
The ice is on the storm window. They didn’t have double pane insulated windows on houses built in 1918.
If you lived in Oregon you could get state dollars to help you pay for replacing your windows. It doesn’t matter whether or not your storm windows work just as well.

I would not do it even if I didn’t have to pay for it, as original wooden sash windows are an important architectural feature of older homes. The newer double pane insulated windows look tacky (IMO), and not only that, if you’re a glass snob you lose the charming effect of the gentle ripples in the old glass. I’d rather pay a little extra to heat the house than pay a lot of money (whether mine or the taxpayers) to uglify it.
+1 for keeping the windows. And if you ever feel like reducing your heating bill without permanently uglifying your house(awesome work), you can put up the temporary plastic every winter. QED.
