The Republicans Are Attempting Suicide

A little while ago Eric did a post Just say NO to another Bush!, discussing how Jeb Bush is a total Drug Warrior. I commented

It is worse than that Eric. The Republicans are not even installed in Congress and they are starting already: The Republicans Are Attempting Suicide

The new Congress isn’t even installed and already the Republicans are contemplating ramping up the War On Some Men aka the War On Some Drugs.

Wallach said the most ready tool at Congress’ disposal in persuading states to keep marijuana illegal would be to withhold money for certain programs if state marijuana initiatives conflict with federal law. That’s something Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., chairman of a House panel on the Constitution and civil justice, says he’s prepared to support.

Let us look at the numbers: Medical Cannabis gets from 60% to 80% support in every State of the Union. Four States have legalized. And legalization runs about 54% nationally with the numbers still rising at a rate of about 1 to 2% a year. That means that by 2016 support will be about 56% to 58%. And the Republicans want to run against that? My expectation is that the Republicans could very well lose the House in 2016 over this issue and possibly even the Senate. And if Republicans run a Prohibitionist for President the Dems will get at least another 4 years.

It also confirms the suspicions the public has about the socon right as exemplified by the comments to Merry Fn Christmas Prohibitionists.

Idiots.

I am surprised trent franks found time off from his crusade against women’s rights. He is also crooked from his time in the state legislature.

While there is plenty to criticize and be concerned over the Nanny State that the Left champions, I have to say that I find it preferable to the Police State that certain factions on the Right seem determined to maintain or expand. Sheesh.

Republican/conservative politicians scratch their pointy heads and wonder why so many voters don’t think them good, compassionate people. They need to take a good long look in the mirror and then they might figure it out that the perception is well deserved.

To me, the Republicans aren’t the Stupid Party anymore. They are The Tyranny Party, because if you support our drug prohibition laws, you support tyranny.

    Randy,

A tradcon/socon from the site I mentioned in this post

    http://classicalvalues.com/2014/12/merry-fn-christmas-prohibitionists/

commented at that link at my suggestion. Diogenes Lamp is his name. I suggested that he give a counterpoint to the comments (the run down of the socon defects we discussed). As you can see if you follow the link he just blew off the conversation.

Those boys are going to get whipped bad. And they deserve it.

    Agree about tyranny preferences.

And captain since you seem to comment here and there perhaps you could use this:

The Reagan administration tried to suppress the finding that cannabis is effective against cancer. You can look it up. Of course the Democrats did nothing when they had a chance.

Cannabis cures cancer. Cancer kills 586,000 Americans every year. Every Prohibitionist is complicit in mass murder.

Drug War Republicans are showing themselves to be despicable fools, and little more than morality police.

People will wonder whether the GOP is the party of small government.

I defy anyone to explain the constitutional difference between Obamacare and the War on Drugs.

    Eric,

That is what I find so odd about them politically. Not that they are despicable. That goes with the territory. But it is now an obvious disadvantage and still they cling to it.

I’m sure the calculation is “I have to win the next primary and to do that I have to be as base as the base”.

I’m sure you recall all the Ds running from Obama in the last election. It didn’t do them a lot of good, but at least it showed some political sense.

    Simon,

You are spot on about the Republicans having no political sense. Last month’s Republican victory wasn’t an affirmation of social conservative policy, it was a rejection of Obama and the Democrats. But the socon dominated Republican Party continues to incorrectly interpret any election wins as voters embracing their socon agenda. They aren’t.

The socon agenda is why so few people now self-identify as Republicans anymore. But the socon’s can’t figure this out. And they can’t pivot from their issues because many see themselves on a mission from God, not unlike The Blues Brothers. And there’s is no end to doing the Lord’s work for these people. They are bound and determined to use the government to whip people into shape. And they wonder why they are so unpopular.

Nick Gillespie once told me Republicans are like your children, they’ll always disappoint you.

    Son, I am disappoint.
