Eric Asked Me A Question – Or The Stupidity Of Donald Trump – Which Is Really The Stupidity Of The Electorate

Eric asked me about Trump’s position on the War On Drugs. He left a couple of links. I’d like to examine those.

When He Called for an End to the War on Drugs, Trump Claims, He Meant It Should Be Waged More Aggressively

When asked about marijuana legalization at the Conservative Political Action Conference last February, Donald Trump said, “I think it’s bad, and I feel strongly about that.” During a 1990 speech in Miami, by contrast, Trump spoke in favor of legalizing not just marijuana but all prohibited intoxicants.

When Trump was a Democrat he took the Democrat voter’s position on the War On Drugs. When he became a Republican he took the opposite position.

In other words he wanted the Republican primary votes. His flopping around on abortion was caused by a similar dynamic. It had the effect of actually destroying the position of the “abortion is murder” crowd. In the end his final position on abortion was – the laws should remain as they are. Something that is barely acceptable to Republicans but will sell better in the general election.

Then there was Eric’s second link. A Wall Will Solve The Heroin Problem.

At a speech today with Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R), Republican front-runner Donald Trump blamed lax southern border security for the state’s heroin problem and claimed his planned border wall would be the solution.

“The wall is gonna stop drugs coming into Maine, New Hampshire,” the presidential candidate told the crowd.

The wall will help on the Southern border. But if that route is closed others will be opened up. Because as Hillary said, “There is too much money in it”. The only way to take the money out is legalization or decriminalization. As Portugal has done. And as Hawaii is proposing.

Overall we can not solve the drug “problem” until people’s understanding of drugs matches reality. Drugs do not cause addiction.

People in chronic pain chronically take pain relievers.

Dr. Lonny Shavelson found that 70% of female heroin “addicts” were sexually abused in childhood . So now you know what kind of pain. PTSD. Until this is well understood – and I have been beating that drum for over a decade and a half with little result – we are going to be stuck with stupid policies. And Donald Trump – being a politician will promise to lead the stupidity. As long as that is what the American people want and it is profitable for the oligarchs.
