I have a copy of the Spearhead WW2 Division History. Bought it 25 years ago from a book seller who mispriced it (I paid $20). Below is a republication of the book I bought. I have the official WW2 edition. Missing most of the dust jacket.

Spearhead in the West: Third Armored Division, 1941-45

Who was Maurice Rose?

“We were responsible for clearing a roadblock on the road to Cologne, Germany,” he says. “It was very bad — mined and zeroed in — but the tanks had to get through. We were assigned the task of clearing the road.

“And there were casualties.”

Around 3 a.m., Army tanks began making their way across the road.

“The first tank passes,” Diamond says. “The second tank passes. The third tank passes.

“The fourth tank, an open half track, pulls over to the side. It was Gen. Rose.”

Rose hopped out of vehicle, went directly over to the wounded and shared words of encouragement in their darkest hour.

“I’d never seen a major general do anything like that,” Diamond says. “I asked the driver, ‘who in the world is that?’”

The driver said, “Oh, that’s General Rose. He’s our guy. He’s always at the front. We call him our point man — our spearhead man. Whenever the tanks are rolling, he’s up front.’”

For all those vets living and dead. As we used to say in ‘Nam, “Get some.”

In the spring of 1965 I was just out of U.S. Army specialist training at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. I was assigned to be a pay clerk at a POL battalion in Mannheim, Germany. I was on one of the last, if not THE last, ships used to transport GIs to Europe. It was the USNS Gen. Maurice Rose.

It was many years later before I found out who Gen. Rose was, how he led, and how he died. Quite a man. We had a lot of men like that back then.

My thanks to all of them, the few still living and the many, many dead.

If it wasn’t for patton the american army would have had the pershing tank a year before they got it over pattons arogance! Look it up! Also it was you conservative republicans who opposed lend lease are support of england before we entered the war and only supported it after pearl harbor when it was politically expediant! Conservatives always on the wrong side since the revolution when they were called tories! FDR new the japanese wer about to attack ;but was forced to let them make the first move so conservatives couldn’t accuse him of starting it! The movie tora, tora, tora has scenes dipicting what I just said.

    crap,

Yes. FDR knew the Japanese were going to attack. South to Malasia. That was well known to the gov. It is why the Philippines were garrisoned and armed extensively before the outbreak of hostilities. What was unknown (because nothing about it was committed to the airwaves) was the attack on Pearl.

You might want to read some of the history of Magic.

And Yamamoto – the architect of Pearl – said he would run wild for six months and then it would be a slow grind to the death for Japan. The hope was the Americans would get tired of grinding.

Almost exactly 6 months after Pearl – Midway.

The Americans reduced the effectiveness of the grinding by bypassing. Garrisons unsupplied withered on the vine. No grinding necessary.

In war all kinds of mistakes are made. The side making the fewest mistakes wins.

History is chock full of examples of the evils of government. No country is immune. And you – obviously a student – to some extent – of government history want more.

The triumph of hope over experience.

You point out the error of Republicans and Democrats of that era. And yet you expect the humans of this era – well the Democrats at least – to do any better?

If so please explain why Drug Prohibition continues. Why aren’t the Democrats of the Senate championing its end? Why don’t they listen to what the voters want? Why are they only listening to what the cartels want?

I can tell you why. The Democrats and Republicans are owned by the bankers:

simon Attack on pearl harbor was known about but ignored on the military channel they show a british double agent(the model for james bond) being asked by his german handlers to find out all he can about the defenses of pearl harbor for their japanese allies and realizes japan intends to attack pearl harbor! He warns americans and they send him to fbi to see queen bee and transvestite j.edgar hoover ; but nothing happens as j.edgar hoover is to busy veiwing child ponography that he demans his agents send him copys of when they confiscate it! After attack he is ordered out of the country so congress doesn’t find out that he warned in advance about the attack!
