The Premise Of The Drug War

Eric’s post, Just another junkie? Or a mother’s beloved son?, got me to thinking about the premise of the drug war. Here it is:
The premise of the Drug War is that by inflicting enough pain you can get people to stop taking unauthorized pain relief medications.

    I would say it differently:
    If you cause people enough harm, you will stop them from doing things that you think are self-destructive.
    But both versions aptly demonstrate why the cure is worse than the disease.

    Reminds me of the old idea of stopping homosexuality by locking up gays in prison.
