Police And Babies

Police Woman Baby

We have a truly heart warming story of a police woman helping the babies and children of a couple who overdosed on an opiate.

But we ought to remember some things. Without the police efforts drug users would be seeing doctors instead of the neighborhood dealers.

But you know. Socialism. “There is no social problem that can’t be fixed with police power.”

Further – when the general order goes out and police supporters are on the list do you think the police will respect the prior support for them? Or will they follow orders?

If we restricted policing to violence, theft, and fraud there would at least be some one with an accusation. But no. Americans want enforcers. America is definitely are getting them. And the enforcers pride themselves on following orders. It is an old song. Those who dance to it wind up cripples. Or otherwise inconvenienced.

police follow orders and if any refuse they will be replaced. here they are allowed to shoot blacks browns and poor whites. in nazi germany it was wealthy and middle class jews. if they are told to shoot rich white conservatives for resisting arrest instead of young blck men they will. and if you don’t understand this get a brain transplant! someday I hoped to become commissar for justice to bring conservatives to justice but am getting to old!

The lady did a good thing, from a good heart.

And you forget one thing – addicts don’t want to see any doctors who won’t give them more of the same – and more and more.

Addicts are NOT the same as those who become dependent because of need. There is a difference. Addicts become dependent because they want OUT.

And perhaps it’s best to let them out – for them. Not necessarily for their families.

No, I’m not saying we should keep everything illegal – it’s possible that some managed dose could have kept her parents in – but what kind of parents would they have been?

All the usual arguments aside, one more problem with making drugs illegal is the total lack of quality control. A bag of heroin could be cut with anything from horse tranquilizer to powdered weasel snot. You get a lot of accidental ODs that way. Accidental ODs cost society a lot in hospital costs etc.

People are going to seek and do drugs no matter how draconian the penalties. The Japanese tried cutting the heads off heroin addicts, the Egyptians tried cutting heads off hashish users. It just plain doesn’t work. (for “work” defined as eliminating drug use, other definitions may apply to the present regime $$$)

If people are going to do drugs the pragmatic approach is to make the consequences as easy on the rest of society as possible. In a legal regime, pharmaceutical grade skag wouldn’t cost more than a few dollars an ounce to produce. Whichever percentage of the population it is who are content to nod off and drool can do so in peace. Most likely these same people would have been useless in any case.

I agree, I was only pointing out that even with legal drugs, there are those who will want more and more and more. Not talking about accidental ODs…
