It seems to me that Cruz’s performance in the primaries shows qualities that we want in a chief executive dealing with Congress—ala Lyndon Johnson—and a commander in chief dealing other countries, ala Ronald Reagan. Both were master players and manipulators.

If Cruz is so mainstream why does he have the Jesus pumped up to 11? You’d think he would tone it down a bit for more general appeal.
Cruz is the dealer in a three card monte game. And he is winning.
The problem is – the losers are in the mood to shoot the dealer and his confederates.
The more Cruz wins the “game” the more he loses legitimacy.
The small donors are saying – “screw the GOP”. The big donors are saying – “if the GOP can’t control their own party…”
Opposition to Trump is breaking their money machine. And Cruz is aiding in the breaking.

Simon, Trump announced last June. Any candidate worth his salt would have realized that s/he had 55 separate contests to compete in and planned accordingly including setting up organizations in each of those 55 states/territories. And conditions change like last August when CO changed their rules in order to reduce the possibility that a non-eGOP candidate wins. Any serious candidate would of course change their game plan in that state/territory in order to remain competitive. Had he given any attention to CO he would have won it.
Trump presumed by dint of his magnetic personality that he’d steamroll all the other candidates. Except he didn’t. And now he’s being a crybaby about it. It’s not a particularly good trait for a potential POTUS.

OTOH:
The Cruz team is out-hustling, out-organizing, and out-maneuvering the Trump campaign at every single turn..
