I had a lady whose site I will not mention ask me to promote her site since she was doing a fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I asked her if she had anything on MS and cannabis. She directed me to that part of her site and I took a look. Then I replied to her (some links added) with a critique of the Medical Marijuana page at her site.
Your Medical Marijuana page is horrible.
The bit on the dangers of Medical Cannabis to lungs was disproved by former Prohibitionist Donald Tashkin in 2006. In a later study he came to the conclusion that Cannabis actually protects the lungs. But he does say that “smokers cough” is a possibility. Probably a good trade off for being able to walk again.
On top of that you say nothing about the endocannabinoid system in the body.
Which says that your information on that page is at least 10 years out of date.
I’m sorry. But I will not be writing you up. Get back to me when you have improved your site.

And how about Montel Williams? BTW I now blog at Classical Values.
I knew about the helpfulness of cannabis to people with MS 25 years ago. No prescription was necessary because none was available then. And the necessity of a prescription is an oddity given Colorado. You might also want to add something on which strains of cannabis are the most helpful.
So how about a Montel Williams video?

A couple of years back I was enjoying breakfast out with my father and an older sister at a chain restaurant. I brought up the subject of MMJ and spoke about what I had recently read on the web from a mother who wrote about her autistic son and how MMJ had improved his condition dramatically.
My sister was all aghast, criticizing the mother and claimed that if she were in that mother’s situation she wouldn’t do it. She went so far as to say that even if she thought it might help, she wouldn’t administer MMJ as it is against the law and she thought it should remain so. I asked my Dad what he would do if he found himself in this mother’s situation and he answered he would use MMJ if he thought it would help. The look of shock on my sister’s face was priceless. And the pride I have in my father’s decency was reaffirmed with his answer that reflected his compassion and sympathy for others.
In defense of my sister, I should mention that she has a nephew in her husband’s family that had some drug abuse issues. Her judgment’s been clouded because of this, but she’s shown some willingness to reconsider things here recently. She may come around yet.
To my mind, if you oppose MMJ contrary to all the scientific and anecdotal evidence that demonstrates its effectiveness, you’ve demonstrated a shocking lack of compassion and sympathy for the sufferings of others. And they irony is that those people who oppose MMJ are quite certain that they hold the moral high ground here. Go figure.
Randy,
It is amazing the lack of compassion in the anti-MMJ crowd. It will be their undoing.
And the fact that they are a fairly monolithic fragment of the Republican Party will hurt that Party for decades.
With all due respect to our esteemed hosts:
If the “medical marijuana” people were honest, they’d come out and say, “Look, the government is dangerous, corrupt, and stupid, not to mention wasteful. The drug laws are as stupid as the gun laws. The ‘war on drugs’ has been a pious fraud from the beginning. How about admitting it was stupid and getting rid of the whole damn thing? We want to spend our lives getting high and sitting on our asses and we don’t think that’s nearly as detrimental to society as the way you’re spending society’s resources now.” I respect honesty. And they might have my support. Maybe. If I weren’t aware that this is a dog-whistle issue to the Left, one of the ways by which they organize their troops to drum up greater turnout at the polls.
Instead, they create their advertising like every other far-left cause for which they make agitprop. “It’s all going to help the Littlest Cancer Patient! Hemp can save the world! Blah blah paper, blah blah hemp seed protein, blah blah hemp oil soap. Those Republicans are just a bunch of hardass old meanies!” And, of course, they nod their heads solemnly on all the TV talk shows and say, yes, of course, it’s going to be regulated like other prescription medication, and yes, of course, vice should be kept well out of sight of people not specifically seeking it out.
Only, we already know that just like the envirowackos, just like the sexual deviants, just like the “gun control” people, just like the race hustlers, it’s just another bunch of cynical Leftist politicians creating a wedge issue out of whole cloth and using it as the camel’s nose inside the tent, just another tool to whip up the creeps and weirdos to turn out at the polls, just another bludgeon use against “cultural hegemony.” We are forbidden to speculate about what’s next, or call Gramscian social bolshevism what it is when we see it.
So then the MMJ bills pass. And suddenly, despite all the sober promises made by the clean-cut young men in suits on the TV, there are billboards and commercial ads everywhere. GET YA LEGAL WEED! FUCK DA PO-LEECE! IT’S LEGAL NOW! PAY JUST $25 AND GET YA LEGAL WEED LICENCE! FREE BONG WITH $100 PURCHASE!
I am a Michigan resident myself. I haven’t noticed the jails becoming any less crowded, my taxes going down, or civil society becoming any more civil since these laws passed here. I do notice that it appears that just about anybody, with less legal responsibility or background checking than is imposed on people who cut hair for a living, can hang out a shingle and claim to be a “registered healer” and make big bucks selling MMJ license cards to the slumdwellers and selling dope. And I do notice a significant increase in the number of creeps, weirdos, lowlifes, and obvious thugs stumbling around and loitering on the sidewalks, reeking of weed, though.
“Yeah, I want to get some weed for my anxiety.”
“What are you anxious about?”
“I’m anxious because I can’t sit around all day getting high.”
Can we get a do-over?
Anon,
A study of the endocannabinoid system might alter your view some. Or not.
