Considering that it never has worked anywhere as an economic system, and considering the millions of people killed under Communism, saying that Marxism sucks (even though it is an understatement) seems entirely appropriate as today, May 1, is the day chosen by Marxists to champion their drivel.
But of course, even opining against Marxism is a great way to ask for trouble. Despite the millions murdered and despite its total unworkability, Marxism is surrounded by a ferocious firewall offering it immunity from criticism shared by no other ism of which I’m aware. While people can freely criticize conservatism, liberalism, centrism, libertarianism, Nazism, etc, if you sound off about Marxism, people are much more likely to take offense. Even reasonable people who are not Marxists will shoot you a disapproving glance, and many lefties will immediately haul out the standard insult to be used to chasten people in these cases. You will be accused of McCarthyism! Yes, that term is forever embedded in the culture, as if all critics of Marxism are guilty of somehow being like that discredited, drunken crank.
It works, though. People are intimidated. Criticizing Marxism is a bad career move, especially in academia.
How the bullies get away with it has always baffled me, but I think in many cases it comes down to fear of losing one’s job for having the “wrong” opinion.
Losing one’s job for having the “wrong” opinion? Huh? But isn’t that McCarthyism?
Such delicious irony goes unappreciated on the left.
But then, lefties do tend to be humorless sorts.

It’s a religion, for people who are to cool for religion.
Marxism is the proposition that Engels’ parents should be obliged to pay for Marx to have a lifestyle and feel grateful for being made to do so.
I have an idea for you on how you can maybe not get “bullied” for criticizing Marxism. You can start by not calling every other person a Marxist. For example, believe it or not, there are a fair amount of people who happen to like social security, but don’t appreciate being called Marxists for supporting that system. That might be leading to them “bullying” you with a . . . “disapproving glance”
I’ve always wondered though, why do big strong second amendment men always get so bullied by leftist academic pussies? Has anybody checked to see if libertarian suicide rate is up there with the LGBTs? They both really suffer the same kind of bullying.
Hey AJ, you can call me a Marxist if you wish. I’m thoroughly enjoying my monthly Social Security check since I know young snarks like you are funding it. In addition, I don’t really need it, so the pleasure is double. When the whole rotten system collapses you can blame greedy old farts like me who gamed it leaving nothing but crumbs and mountains of debt for you.
Ta ta.

And who does this, pray tell? I’ve never noticed that in this blog, and I’ve been reading it for years. Me, I prefer “State-f*cker” to “Marxist,” but that’s just a matter of taste.
On the other hand, since the old, amelioration-minded “liberals” of yore (Adlai Stevenson, Hubert Humphrey, JFK, et al) were replaced in the 1960s by New Left-influenced “progressive” type “liberals,” it really isn’t that unfair to call that kind of State-f*cking, coercion-happy, power-grabbing scum “Marxists,” given their class-warfare rhetoric. Still, that might be unfair to Marx. If you look at the “Communist Manifesto,” many if not most of the ten or twelve policies (I don’t recall the exact number) Marx and Engels advocate certainly could certainly be part of any mainstream Democratic Party platform. And even “moderate” (i.e., “me-too”) Establishment Republicans would probably go along with them, too.

But when someones says something like this, is it all that unreasonable to suspect this person might be a Marxists?
I for one, never thought that I needed to seek out Marxist professors to avoid being considered a “sellout.”
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
Wait a moment… Wrong Marx.
