I frequently rant about American Politics. Especially about how there is little fundamental difference between the two parties. One talks liberty the other talks loot but both are power mad.
I think I have come across the perfect definition of the two parties.
Most “conservatives” don’t realize it, but they are just liberals and lefties with a 25 year time lag.

But there are some R’s who view themselves as D-Light. But out here in the precincts, R’s are pretty darned welded to principles.
Like helping someone out can make them weaker, not stronger.

Here is the real difference: liberals are good people who have a few good ideas :but also a lot of bad ideas, and believe authority is good if its them in authority. Conservatives have no ideas and are just plain evil! Libertarians if they would ever develope a social conscience for those who need help would be able to rule best because they don’t beleive in ruling!
By social conscience you mean a willingness to rob Peter to pay Paul. Conservatives and Libertarians generally are against robbery.
A culture founded on robbery eventually runs out of thing to steal. Why produce if it is likely to get stolen?
Liberals claim “good hearts” and have bad brains. The incentives are wrong.
I’m more or less with OregonGuy, that some Republicans are D-lite and not really conservative at all. For true conservatives, right libertarians or constitutional libertarians, i.e. those who are best fit for the Republican Party, they just need to insure the Party is not led by the McCains and the Grahams.
taxation is the price you pay for civilization “but you don’t have to pay taxes just go live where no one is around and don’t buy anything someone else made! But know you want to benefit from taxes with out paying them! I bet you go around telling wounded veterans thanks for your service! Since words don’t cost you tax money for health care or better pay!

At what level of taxation is civilization ended? I think we are on the road to test that.
In some cases, liberals back the ideas of yesterday’s conservatives. Example: The individual health insurance mandate.
