Anyone can fly any flag anywhere, right? Especially an unknown person in a crowd.
I mean, when a Communist hammer and sickle flag was flown in front of the White House back when Obama was inaugurated, it didn’t cause all that much consternation.

That’s because as all of us reasonable people know, anyone can fly a flag or wave a sign, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the person speaks for anyone but himself.
So why is it that when some unknown human (a provocateur type who wanted attention IMO) waves a Confederate Flag in front of the White House, it’s the focus of attention on much of an entire CNN news segment?

And it’s considered “proof” (as if they needed more!) of right wing Tea Party racism, and Glenn Reynolds is scolded for suggesting the flag waver might be a plant.
FWIW, the man’s name is Michael Ashmore, and he strikes me as a moronic asshole who speaks for no one but himself. What he is either too stupid to know or care about is that there is a well organized choir attempting to charge the Tea Party with being “Neo-Confederate” and he is doing some power lifting for them, simply because he wants his 15 minutes of Andy Warhol fame.
If Ashmore isn’t a plant, he certainly has the IQ of one. (Um sorry there… Was it “racist” of me to bring up IQ?)
It’s a free country, but excuse me while I retch.

Dog crap attracts flies. The media was just showing its veiwers that teabaggers are ignorants southern white trash who are to stupid to realize the civil war is over and they LOST! The media has to keep reminding the ignorant southern white trash that they should never forget that they LOST!
The Tea Party is a gang waiting for its Lonesome Rhodes. It doesn’t have an ideological center, just a collection of emotional reactions to events, and as such is open to anyone with a personal agenda. Most are well meaning people, but that is beside the point.
To be successful it needs leadership from respected people outside politics. Dr. Carson comes to mind.
Some must have significant experiences that stimulate the use of terms without relevant application to so-called Tea Party adherents. Issues motivating Tea Party adherents are from today.
Maybe Ashmore’s flag was there to serve as reminder that Obamacare is slavery.
Or at least, the worst thing to ever happen in America since slavery.
It is true that we live in a semblance of slavery to the degree that the product of our individual labor is taken for the common use or otherwise redistributed. For most of my time here this has been less than fifty per cent of my annual increase. With President Obama’s policies this will soon exceed fifty per cent and that will raise awareness of the enslavement aspect.
@Bob Thompson, A commenter over at Reason.com made a compelling argument some time back that in many ways serfs of the Middle Ages had less of a burden, tax wise than the average taxpayer in the U.S. today. The serfs owed a certain amount of their crops and a period of labor to the lord to maintain their place on his land. Taking all of that into consideration, it seems the average serf worked about three months to meet this burden. According to the Tax Foundation, the average taxpayer now works into mid-April to cover his part of the burden. Mid-April! And it’s worse of course for individuals who make a little more or who live in states with higher tax rates. People in some states labor into May to cover their taxes.
I’ve always thought the structure of the tax system to be a work of evil genius. Dragging it out over the course of a year seems to ease resentment as most people just don’t act as if they’re aware how large a burden it is. Imagine though if government officials showed up at your door on January 1 and hauled you away to a work camp where for three or four months you did the same work you normally do but you couldn’t go home until you covered your tax burden. Revolution.

History started on 9-11 2001 and anything that happened before doesn’t count! I was filling up my car(it will pass everything but a gas station or repair shop!) when a car pulled up with bumper sticker with a goofey picture of “w” with the caption “miss me yet?” I told the driver I don’t think the loved ones of the people who had to jump out of the burning world trade center missed him. Nor the relatives of the men and women soldiers who died in iraq or afganistan or the men women and children who died in katrina miss him yet! He told but obama is black!(actually that was not the word he used it starts with N!)
