Could The Republicans Hire This Guy?

You can find an article on what he did at The Atlantic.

You can also get the short version at Navy Training Wins Election For Obama.

Further thoughts. No guy who looks like that (another picture) is going to be hired by Republicans. They won’t be hiring me either. But defense contractors hired me back in the day when I was shaving my head regularly. Note: I did not shave the scalp for job interviews.

What is wrong with the Republicans? They don’t do science or technology well, and they appear to live in a world that no longer exists. Button down IBM. There is no dress code for brains. And no special way you have to live either. In fact the Harvard Business Review has this to say about creative types.

Research confirms the stereotypical view that corporate innovators — intrapreneurs — exhibit many of the psychopathic characteristics that prevent them from being effective leaders: they are rebellious, anti-social, self-centered and often too low in empathy to care about the welfare of others. But manage them well, and their inventions will delight us all.

The First Mate says that describes me pretty well. Especially “psychopathic” and “self centered”. When she bumps into a wall what do you think I say? “Poor dear” or “Open yer fookin eyes”. And if I want to be a bit social I will add: “and you will crash less frequently”.

So why did she marry me? Well a dull ordinary life didn’t interest her. It didn’t interest me either. So at least in that respect we are a good match.

For your wife’s sake I hope you are no longer shaving your head. What is it with the bald look? Even my sons cut off their gorgeous hair. We women mourn.

    Jennifer,

The first time I got shaved was by a woman. I did it every 3 months for about 7 or 8 years to celebrate Equinoxes and Solstices.

Let me add that just after a shave there were women who LOVED running their hands over my bald head. Different ones. Some would come up to me and ask. Well of course I never turned one down.

In the “proper” American style, we congratulate the groom and wish good luck to the bride. If I’d known you back when, I’d have said the proper thing. 😛

As for your original question: “Could The Republicans Hire This Guy?”

Let’s just say that they damned well better next time around. But I doubt it.

Likely they wouldn’t even hire me – and (to be honest) I could only do about 1/2 of what he did. But I suspect what they actually DID hire could only do 1/4 of what he did. So, I’d at least have been a little improvement. (Not that I applied, but maybe I should have…)

Harper Reed knows who high-IQ people vote for. He knows who less neurotic people vote for. He knows who more impressive people in general vote for. What are the implications of the fact that he hasn’t said any of that?

    Joseph,

    1. Are you sure?
    2. In your opinion what are the implications.
