Fire Arms Confiscations Begin in NY

I just go this from JPFO:

“John Doe, an upstanding professional with no outstanding criminal convictions and no history of violent action received a letter from the Pistol Permit Department informing him that his license was immediately revoked upon information that he was seeing a therapist for anxiety and had been prescribed an anxiety drug. He was never suicidal, never violent, and has no criminal history. The New York State Department of Health is apparently conducting a search of medical records to determine who is being treated for anxiety drugs and using this as a basis for handgun license revocation.

Too funny. If you want to keep your firearms and have an anxiety problem you are better off going to the gypsy drug store. There is danger there but they don’t keep records.

This link has pro and con. I’m going with the pro. Just keep in mind that what is generally true may not be true for you when it comes to medicine. Legal or Illegal.

In many people, the drug produces a relaxing effect, but it’s still unclear whether weed can actually reduce anxiety.

Unfortunately, trying to understand the science of marijuana is not as calming as smoking it. Marijuana reduces stress by acting on the endocannabinoid system, the part of the brain that regulates pain, memory, and appetite. The brain busts out the Bob Marley when the THC interacts with a neurotransmitter called anandamide, producing a relaxed feeling. Small amounts of marijuana can also beat stress by lowering blood pressure and causing sleepiness.

More on endocannabinoids at: Endocannabinoids The Science.

They aim to make outlaws of us all. One way or another.

More from the JPFO link:

This is an unprecedented violation of a Citizens 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendment RIGHTS, brought to fruition by power and control hungry tyrants holding elected office who swore an Oath to uphold and defend the very rights they are now actively stripping from their constituents.

Well there were some among us who had it in for dopers and were willing to shred the 4th and 5th to get at the doping miscreants. Well you got at them all right. And now that you have no protection they are coming for you.

“First they came for….” Still works the way it always did. I can’t tell you how many times I was told in effect “they deserve it” and “it can’t happen here” and “it will only be them, if you are not one of them you are safe”.

I’m sorry to say that I will have the last laugh. Only I’m not laughing.

Update: 10 April 2013 1424z

I probably should have noted that California started doing the same thing a little less than a month ago. And for the same reason. Mental health issues.

And this:

It turns out that anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in the United States. They are worth $46 billion a year to the pharmaceutical industry. You don’t suppose this fact has any thing to do with the pharmaceutical industries being in the forefront of the Drug Free America campaign do you? Of course not. They are just trying to keep you from being addicted to natural products at the cost of 1/10th of a cent per dose when they are more than willing to sell you an FDA and doctor approved, pharmacy sold product that will do the job for a dollar a dose. They have only your best interests at heart. Just ask their accountants.

Note the date: September 2004 the $$$s are probably higher now.

=====================

And this little gem.

In 1994, a study asking a random sample of thousands of Americans about their mental health reported that 15 percent had ever suffered from anxiety disorders. A 2009 study of people interviewed about their anxiety repeatedly for years raised that estimate to 49.5 percent – which would be 117 million U.S. adults.

Some psychiatrists say the increase in the prevalence of anxiety from about 4 percent to 50 percent is the result of psychiatrists and others “getting better at diagnosing anxiety,” as Dr. Carolyn Robinowitz, a past president of the APA who is in private practice in Washington, D.C., put it. “People who criticize that are showing their bias,” she said. “When we get better at diagnosing hypertension, we don’t say that’s terrible.”

It goes like this:

Drug use = bank robbery so why not anxiety = paranoid schizophrenia.

I have in fact seen the first mentioned in a comment so why not the second? Makes about as much sense.

ya know, it occurs to me that all the kids (boys) on ADHD,ADD etc drugs will never get to own a gun, will they? I mean, their permanent record will be full of reasons to deny them permission, right? Poor impulse control? what else do you need?

    sheesh… long march indeed

Great. So now the rest of us realize that if we would like to retain our rights we should forgo mental health treatment. Good idea. Let’s have gun owners avoid medical care. Question: How many law enforcement officials are being treated for mental health issues? Will they have their guns taken away? What about their spouses? Clinically depressed wife? Desk duty for you.

Mental health background checks could get real interesting. I remember over the course of my lifetime the popularity of psychoanalysis, Valium, Ritalin, and other ‘Pop Psych’. I know of some who wanted to quit smoking being prescribed Wellbutrin for depression so their insurance would cover it. Many of Hollywood’s elite could lose their right to ever own a gun and while that would make me laugh it’s just not worth it.

WOOT – that means I’m disabled! I can get funds. 😀 I do suffer from anxiety. And if that means I’m schizophrenic I can get MONEY!

Sigh. Ok, I’ll stick to swords, crossbows, slingshots, bombs… and every other weapon that’s not an actual gun. Wouldn’t want to scare anyone.

    Kathy,

Poison darts can be very effective if handled carefully.
