Some things are off limits?

Whether you like them or not, personal attacks on celebrities (especially people who enter politics) have long been a thing to be expected. (Hell, when I was irritated by her obvious bias, I compared Candy Crowley to Jabba the Hutt, so I am hardly squeaky clean in that regard.)

However, what many people (myself included) consider out of bounds are personal attacks on family members, especially based on nothing more than their personal appearance.

Like this lovely piece, titled “Which Romney Son Is Creepiest?

To give credit where credit is due, the photographers did their homework and found the most unflattering pictures of each of the Romneys’ sons. They are captioned thusly:

Craig

Creep Vibe: Needy stalker

Ben

Creep Vibe: Misfit adoptee

Josh

Creep Vibe: Evil cyborg banker
Matt

Creep Vibe: Slightly less evil cyborg banker
Tagg

Creep Vibe: Drunken sociopath frat brother

Following that, they’re soliciting votes.

Please place your vote, your argument, and any evidence in the comments. We will tally up the results and use the best comments to declare the winner.

Lovely.

Can anyone imagine the outcry if someone (much less a major Internet presence) did the same thing with Obama’s daughters?

The first lady is quite an easy target too.

Moosha the Hutt is fair game because she’s put herself in the spotlight.
Ditto for Chelsea Clinton, or whatever her name is now. Obama’s
daughters, like Romney’s kids and like Amy Carter before them all,
should be left alone in the free-for-all insultfest.

Nothing is off limits anymore – more’s the pity.
(And, btw, I said the same thing when Bill Clinton was in office.) JFK was off-limits. After that things started falling apart. Nixon was the pivot point. “OH YEAH the press can bring down the president! WOO HOO!”

And, they could – and did try even on Dems through Clinton, but for some reason, they won’t report you-know-who. Seems “off limits” works again – but only on some people. Not good.

A general “bring ’em all down’ – that I could, at least, respect. But “bring ’em down only if they are the other side” negates all that journalism ever stood for. (At least journalism in the free world: “In Pravda there is no news, in Izvestia there is no truth” – pravda means truth, isvetia means news.) I’m seeing too much of the same here nowadays.

All of Mitt’s sons are adults, and O’s daughters are not. This sort of thing is creepy in any case. I don’t like it and I’m not trying to defend it. But the age of Mitt’s sons does make it *a bit* less creepy.

I have a feeling that, after O is out of office and his daughters grow up, we’re going to see a lot of reckless behavior from them. At least, whatever isn’t covered up.
