A country that starts with a you!

Here it is nearing 11:30 p.m., and I have to be up and out first thing in the morning, and no time for blogging. (A grueling routine which fortunately will not last forever.)

However, at least I have something, for a friend kindly emailed me a link to this video purporting to demonstrate how stupid Americans are:

It’s pretty shocking, really, that they could find people that dumb and ignorant, and I hate to think most Americans are that stupid, because I don’t think as a whole they are. (If in fact they are, the country needs parenting, and the implications for libertarianism are deeply disturbing.)

I think this is a bit like the “People of Walmart” stuff. Sure, such specimens of human pathology exist, but they have to be found and documented.  You can’t just go to Walmart and expect to see them. (I’ve never seen them, and I have been there a number of times.)

It takes work to find Americans as moronic as the ones in the video, and I think it takes gullibility to assume they are the norm.

But hey, at least they are entertaining.

I shop at Walmart two or three times a week. The majority of the shoppers are working class, but there are many middle class people present. There are some dumb shoppers and a few dumb clerks, but most people seem to be of average intelligence.

They might even be smarter than non-Walmart people as they pay less for the very same items found in other “upscale” stores.

    Oh. My. Good. God.

This should qualify as a smear piece. I’m sure if I went to the questioner’s home country (to me, he sounds vaguely Australian), I would be able to find just as many people who are ignorant of world geography, history, and politics. (Well, actually, I wouldn’t, since the US has a population many times that of Australia, and therefore presumably has correspondingly more ignorant people.)

And regarding the gullibility of those who would assume this is the norm for Americans… it doesn’t take much when one is already inclined to believe the worst.

Sorry but people really are that ignorant, my good friend, a Canadian born American citizen, just yesterday , did not know what D-Day was, where it happened or when.
He is a hella good I.T. guy, musician, etc.
I guess certain folks just don’t care about such things, and in the U.S. they shouldn’t be Required to, Free country, right?

Yes people are that dumb. Brits, Aussies, and New Zealanders are at least as stupid as us if it’s any consolation.

We can’t forget that when these videos are put together the producers only put in what THEY want, not always what represents the majority. View this with a large grain of salt and remember, these videos are for entertainment purposes only.

Low I.Q. isn’t just a number, it is a way of life.

If in doubt, watch people drive.

About half the people in this country are below average. More or less.

I find that most people have some subjects to which they take the following Holmsian approach.

“What the deuce is it to me? he interrupted impatiently: you say that we go round the sun. If we went round the moon it would not make a pennyworth of difference to me or to my work.”

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle “A Study in Scarlet”

I would not want to go up against most of these people in a trivia contest where they get to define the subject categories.

That’s true… Remember “Trivial Pursuit”? I tended to excel in categories like Geography and Science and Nature, but I was hopeless when it came to sports and leisure. Just not my bag.

I think what’s more disturbing is that, were you to try that in the halls of Congress and interviewed government officials, you’d probably achieve similar results.
