Each and every one of you who has followed this blog for a few months knows the corruption of the Drug War. You absolutely know how bad it is at every level.
What makes you think the incentives are different in any other Dept of government? The inherent goodness of people? That once people go to work for Government they become saints?
In the private sector we ameliorate that to some extent by competition. Who competes with government?
We all know government is for sale. Will adding another law and a dept. to administer it fix the problem or just make it larger?
And BTW I do not think there is a Party solution to the problem. As in the Drug War – until people change their minds we are stuck with what we have. As Hilary said about the Drug War, “there is too much money in it”.

The only way to eliminate the drug war is to de-criminalize possesion. The drug war has been an unmitigated disaster in regards civil liberties. As far as competing with the government, forget it, that is why they will not legalize marijuana, they will not tolerate competition.

No, it’s more the opposite. Take the following description from the Michigan Pig Farmer case, Which Are The Real Pigs?:
According to several counts, between the Attorney General, DNR and Department of Agriculture there were 17 State of Michigan Employees in the courtroom concerning this case. The lead characters were all dressed in black (Mark likened it to the Matrix). Security was intense. At this small, rural county courthouse everyone was supposed to go through metal detectors, past numerous deputies and State Police Troopers. An explosive sniffing dog walked through small groups of farmers and supporters. Mark noticed a couple scruffy looking fellows in overalls and talked to one of them on a couple of separate breaks. The fellow shared that he was currently unemployed, homeless, and had nothing else to do, so he came to see the proceedings. Ah, OK. Mark then asked how an unemployed fellow such as himself made it past all that security into the courtroom with a concealed gun and wearing a Kevlar vest. The fellow quickly found someone else to talk to. There were several similar experiences related by others who attended. As with other meetings with this agency, the farmers and ranchers were “disarmed” with great show (not that there were any arms in the first place) while the agents went to great lengths (and expense) to show their force.

More and more this country is reminding me of Soviet Russia as described by Ayn Rand in We The Living. As government spreads into the daily lives of ordinary people, they learn to accommodate and adjust.
I should have added at the last – or else!
