Why Do They Want To Elect A Republican?

The protesters back in the 60s who behaved the way the OWS crowd is behaving elected Nixon in a landslide. The backers of OWS have to know this even if the rioters don’t. So the question for me is: why do the backers of OWS want a Republican elected? And just which Republican might that be? Not Herman Cain to be sure. Romney? Newt? We shall see.

I wouldn’t bet on a Repub victory just yet. Things are stacking up to nominate Romney, as if nobody learns a damn thing from the electable McCain fiasco. Romney will pour lots of cold water on many conservative voters, so Romney is Obama’s best bet for victory.

I’m ready to punch in the mouth the next person that tells me about Romney’s electability. Romney is the man that lost to the man that lost to Obama. That should make Romney the antonym of electability.

OWS could be about making sure the Repubs nominate the blandest, steadiest candidate, which just happens to be the one easiest for Obama to defeat. Repub voters may logically settle for Romney because “Dangerous times demand safe leadership.” Or OWS could simply be Obama looking reasonable by comparison to the Marxists in the streets. Obama’s buddies in the Commie Revolution biz are working some angle, probably to Obama’s benefit. Or, they could have concluded they need to raise their profile for the future and collect lots of names for their Rolodex for the future Revolution.

Scott M, you have a great sense of sardonic humor.

I asked this question at the Atlantic and I got back from a commenter: the person most like Nixon is Romney.

If I were even more cynical than I feel today, my answer would be that the ‘they’ to whom you refer are the same ‘they’ that arranged for Obama to be elected in ’08. This OWS tactic is ensuring that the ‘they’ man (Romney) wins in ’12.
    ‘They’ really hate the Clintons.
Is it possible to arrange such a cunning stunt? Not the Feds, that’s certain.

The reason is obvious: Contributions to liberal organizations are much higher when a Republican is President.

I would posit that liberals and Leftists deliberately ignore history.

Why else would they pursue policies that have failed and failed again?

I appreciate Simon’s point about Romney is the candidate who most resembles Nixon.
