Commenter Frank is discussing a certain Republican candidate. I think it applies to almost all of them:
I don’t care if the country goes to utter hell. I will never, under any circumstances vote for him. I am so sick of this shit of voting for the lesser of two evils. What does it get us? Buy a little time maybe, for what? If this is the best the Republican Party can come up with, a man who can’t hold a thought in a debate, who is on the take, is as slimy as they come, screw them.
And while it was just a little thing, giving assholes like Sullivan a field day with it, that little episode of the gay soldier in Iraq getting booed last night at the debate, AND NOT ONE OF THE CANDIDATES MAN ENOUGH TO THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE, turned me off to the entire Republican Party so much that I doubt if I will even vote for my local shithead bigot of a Republican congressman.
You know, I have noticed a certain moral revulsion developing in this country because of the evil our “good” politicians are involved in. I have felt it myself (in case you hadn’t noticed).
I was in the middle of the fight against racism in this country in the 60s. And the country never felt as sick to me then as it does now.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Lets train the electorate to be single issue at the time of the vote, so that they have cover when they want to bitch about who’s in charge.
HEY! Let’s litmus test every single candidate, and ignore the cesspool of the MUCH worse candidate.
You know, Voting is a Choice, and not choosing is a choice, and whoever wins, is in effect your choice, cuz you chose not to choose. If your ONE issue is so overpowering, then screw it, just hand your vote off to someone else, hell, then it wasn’t you.
Even after making a choice, even an easy one, you still have the right to bitch about it, and make it better next time around. If you are a one issue, you are pathetic, because you don’t address the very complexity you accuse others of not being aware of.
this is a complete abdication of citizenship and the right to vote.
If you think otherwise, you are WRONG!
CONSENSUS!!!
The sentiments described in this post and in the referenced comment are exactly what’s wrong with this country these days. You people are like overgrown fucking children, demanding everything YOUR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY, having your little temper tantrums if you don’t get your way. You expect politicians to be godlike, although you don’t even see it – and when they fail to live up to messianic standards, you feel revulsion and hatred. Grow the hell up. You fought battles against racism in the 60’s? Good for you. I was born in the 60’s. You sound like a child to me. But then I didn’t spend my youth raging against the machine, I served my country and learned how to be an adult in the process. I also learned that there are a whole lot of people not at all like me who are just as American as I am, and they have votes too. This is something you people in your fucked up generation never figured out while you furiously demanded the world be handed to you on a silver platter (with a pacifier on the side!).
Cry me a river, pal. It’s not the country that’s sick, it’s you and your spoiled rotten fellow crybabies. And you people call yourselves conservatives? Don’t insult the rest of us by doing so, please!
Well my friends I have a plan to bring down the country over corruption and immorality and there is not a damn thing you can do about it.
The joke will soon be on you:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/09/the_democrats_2012_victory_plan.html
Deal with it. T -8 days and counting.
Who ever said I was a conservative? I’m a libertarian.
Say didn’t the single issue of slavery almost bring down the country?
Modern Prohibition/The War on Drugs is the most destructive, dysfunctional & immoral domestic policy since slavery & Jim Crow.
There are now more citizens on my side than yours. Deal with it. My “conservative” friends. About 75% of the country says prohibition is not working. I’d say you have a LOT of convincing to do to take this issue off the table.
The best of luck to you. Because you will need it.
I agree on the War on Drugs, but your advice is selfish.
The best of luck to you. Because you will need it.
And to you, because if you vote present, then that’s all you will be, PRESENT! you aren’t a brave protest non-vote, you are making a choice.
A real life situation, I was driving in the winter as a newly licensed driver, and a car in front me lost control, I only had two choices, I could hit the car in front of me, that lost control, and likely be compensated for all damages from insurance, or I could have cut into a curb and eff up my dads car.
neither were good choices, but those were the choices available. I had a third one, and just let go of the wheel and see what would happen, and in that case, I likely would have hit the car and the curb.
But EH! based on this post? It seems like you are taking an “eh” position.
The War On Drugs is selfish.
End in NOW or in 8 days the fall of the country will begin. And I intend to push it over the cliff to the best of my ability.
Deal.
===
Let me note that slavery and Jim Crow had similar effects on the country.
Which side are you on my friend? And if you are anti-prohibition you have not done near enough.
Most unfortunate.
Douglas,
It has nothing to do with voting. Nothing. I’m going to bring down this corrupt house of cards to the best of my ability.
I am going to pit brother against brother. Fathers against sons. Mothers against daughters.
We will be lucky to escape a full blown civil war.
Business will not go on as usual. I will promise you that.
I have been at this for 40 years. Writing about it for 13. My time is at hand. I’m about to get all Biblical on this country and I need not lift a finger farther than to reach my keyboard.

T -8 days and counting.
I did not hear a “gay” soldier get boo’ed what was boo’ed was the reference to gays in the military.
I was in the middle of the fight against racism in this country in the 60s. And the country never felt as sick to me then as it does now.
Amen to that.
It’s not a single issue item. I’ve voted for these Republican bastards and overlooked a lot, for years. If I thought any of them actually had an answer to the malaise our country finds itself in, it would make sense to compromise on principle, hold my nose again, and vote for them. But they are offering just more of the same, only a lighter version than the Democrats.
You can wrap Perry in the flag, say he’s light years better than Obama, and kid yourself. But he’s just a mediocre unprincipled Dixiecrat politician who will be eaten alive by the Obama machine.
The Tea Party arose in reaction to Obamacare. It was a revolt against mandated government insurance coverage, and its taxes and regulations which will strangle the life out of private insurance and make doctors employees of the state. The original architect of Obamacare was Mitt Romney. The Republican Party establishment is playing us for fools by pushing that Mormon bible thumper in our faces. Everyone accuses Romney of flip-flopping, but he is very consistent when you realize that he’s using the socialism and culture of the Mormon church as a template for government.
The other candidates, with the exceptions of Johnson who has maybe 2-3% support and not a ghost of a chance, and Paul who is an old crackpot, are just lightweight versions of either Romney (Huntsman) or Perry (Bachmann, Santorum, & Cain). Gingrich is in a class by himself, a hate filled, pseudo-intellectual, bitter and used up old man.
There was a perfect opportunity to show leadership when the gay soldier was booed. Without embracing homosexuality, anyone of them could have offered up a simple, thank you for risking your life in defense of our country, and provided a moment of tolerance and decency. By remaining silent all of them displayed cowardice. They are empty suits waiting for a cue before making a move. No guts and no honor. (Contrast that scene with Obama venturing into a southern black church to give a lecture on gay tolerance.)
The only potential candidate that has shown anything resembling leadership is Palin. Would any of those men, or Bachmann, dared to stand on the Wisconsin capitol steps in support Walker, addressing a hostile crowd of union members? Would any of them have the guts to condemn the Supreme Court ruling affirming the right of Fred Phelps to disrupt military funerals with gay bashing provocations? Palin did.
And finally, the War On Drugs is the most costly disaster our government has imposed of us since Vietnam. Prisons are so overcrowded from it that beds are lined up in hallways and recreation rooms. Billions are wasted in jailing people for victimless crimes. It’s created so much street crime that whole sections of major cities are becoming off limits even to police. Think East St. Louis. It’s turned law enforcement into gestapo, and is in the process of destroying Mexico. I’ve had enough of it.
And the Republican Party and its politicians created it and continue to support it. Forget the bigotry against gays, that alone disqualifies them.
It’s time to end this shit.
Hey Buzz, the reason you didn’t hear a “gay” soldier getting booed, and pretend that it was a reference to gays in the military, is because we are invisible to you. You know, we don’t really exist. We just kind of slip in there once in a while, risk our lives, some of us get wounded and bleed, and a few maybe even get killed. But don’t acknowledge us, or heaven forbid allow us to openly serve. Just keep on pretending that it wasn’t a gay soldier in Iraq who asked the question and was booed. The horror of it will all go away if you pretend enough.
Why do libertarians care so much about the Republican party (and conservatives) and what we do? Don’t they have their own party to support? If their party and their platform are so wonderful and the country agrees with them so much, how come they aren’t winning national offices? Maybe they should just “deal with” their own party and see how much success they find.
I’m against the war on drugs too, and I’m a conservative. But FFS, if you think that’s comparable to slavery, you are fucking deranged. LMFA
@Frank: I have read that it was just a couple of assholes who booed and that others shushed/hissed at the booers. The booers should have been thrown out, as far as I’m concerned, and anyone who defends booing someone serving in the military is no better than the scum who spit on soldiers returning from Vietnam. And Santorum SHOULD be condemned for not treating the questioner with a little more respect. It is quite possible he didn’t hear the booers, but his response sucked anyway. Of course, he’s not going anywhere so he’s easy for me to ignore.
But these crybabies who whine that they don’t get their way all the time when they are frankly DOING IT WRONG are a disgrace. Okay, so you’re a libertarian, Simon. Whatever. GROW UP. Wonder why people you don’t like keep getting elected? It’s because people who support them know how to play the fucking game, they/we don’t sit at home pouting on election day or vote for fairy tale candidates with zero chance of winning because they are “pure” on pet issues that are not of pressing importance to most Americans.
Viv,
I’m a libertarian Republican.
You know. The Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Sarah Palin wing of the party.
Republican Liberty Caucus
So I guess I have a dog in this fight.
Beth,
I’m a grown up. I can do what I will. And suffer the consequences.
I’m telling the Nixon, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II wing of the party that it is time to retreat on this issue before the Democrats make it an issue.
And it will be an issue.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/09/the_democrats_2012_victory_plan.html
Modern Prohibition/The War on Drugs is the most destructive, dysfunctional & immoral domestic policy since slavery & Jim Crow.
So you know. I’m agin it. Because my immortal soul is worth more than my pocket book. YMMV.
But come Oct 2 the fires will start raging. And instead of developing a viable counter strategy you rage at me. OK by me.
But OK. You have changed my mind. I’m a selfish little spoiled child. And PROUD of it. Deal.
Come back Oct 6th and tell me how your plan is working.
I’m like those anti-slavery guys you read about in history books. I’d rather see this country destroyed than have this abomination go on one extra minute.
You fear what I am doing will tear the country apart. Your fear is my hope. So we do have something in common.
I am so looking forward to the future. I march to the sound of the guns.

I have an issue that I believe will drive all the Republicans from the field except for Johnson, Palin, and Paul.
I intend to do just that. As I say: Oct 2nd can’t come soon enough.
Simon,
But if there is a party that is aligned with what you believe more than the GOP, why don’t you just stick with it? Why must you attempt to sabotage another political party that has known successes for decades without you? Paul left the GOP, joined the Libertarian Party and returned because he knew he couldn’t win as a Libertarian. He’s an unprincipled phony. He thinks it is better to fake being a Republican than to have the balls to stand on his libertarian principles and stick with his TRUE party. He’s weak-sauce.
Paul, Johnson and Palin are self-destructive and will never win the GOP nomination. They will forever be bench warmers.
The problem isn’t the issue Simon, the problem is you depicting that the issue is more important than the outcome.
You Effed up BAD in this post and cite.
You are accusing the ‘pubs, but you haven’t named a candidate other than johnson, or as everyone else calls him, “who?”
Beth:
I’m not and never have been a registered Libertarian. I can only think of twice that I voted for one of their candidates on a state level, and that was when both major party people were hopeless.
I was raised in a Republican household, attended Lincoln Day celebrations, and registered with the party when I was 21. That lasted 2 years, until Reagan as California Governor sold out and instituted state income tax withholding, breaking THE main campaign promise that got him elected. He also traveled the state speaking at college auditoriums denouncing the draft as involuntary servitude, during the Vietnam War. He was a firebrand on the issue recounting the history of it, the New York draft riots during the Civil War, and linking it to slavery. He had standing ovations at liberal campuses, with kids whistling and stomping their feet. Most of whom couldn’t vote, BTW.
But then, when the time came to actually support the Senators who were attempting get rid of it, he backed down and claimed “maybe it’s not the right time, during a war, to end this.” I got a personal letter from him stating why he was selling out, just before I was to be drafted into the Army. I burned it and enlisted in the Air Force. All illusions ended then about what Republicans stood for. They claimed that freedom was their paramount concern, but couldn’t bring themselves to pass civil rights legislation, or even end the draft. They weren’t the ones who marched on Selma, or stood with Martin Luther King in Washington, at least not the elected Republicans. They triangulated to gain Southern votes in a strategy that compromised the very principles the party was founded on.
And it reached some kind of zenith when Nixon announced the war on drugs. It’s been a “me too” party ever since. Liberalism light. And yet all these years I still voted for them because they nominally represented my beliefs. But that’s what it is, in name only. It’s just a game for them of getting elected, being wooed by lobbyists, cash in the coffers, book deals, cushy jobs after office with defense contractors, speaking fees, and even advertising gigs for Viagra. They are a joke.
And now, when the country is facing an almost pre-Civil War crisis, with unemployment at Depression levels, money running out to pay unemployment insurance, people losing their homes and moving into homeless shelters with kids, or even living in their cars, the chickens have come home to roost. All the policies they compromised on have led to this situation. And what is their answer? More of the same, but it will work this time. Sound familiar? It’s the same Ground Hog Day formula that Obama and the Democrats are following. Well, it hasn’t worked, and won’t work.
They sucked up the money from large corporate interests and voted for what they called free trade, which is in actuality a quid pro quo arrangement of millions in campaign contributions resulting in the off shoring of millions of jobs, the closing of factories forever, and the wholesale destruction of the middle class. And then after touting a “post industrial America” of service jobs, high tech innovation, and the home of the worlds financial services industry, they have blown that, barely keeping the whole mess afloat on a day to day basis with money borrowed or created out of thin air.
Can you honestly dispute what I wrote, and give any kind of reason why it will matter if they are voted in, and Obama is voted out? Will the crisis suddenly end with nirvana around the corner because the Republican gang replaces the Democrat gang? They helped get us to this point. Not a one of them, with the remotely possible exception of Sarah Palin, is worth the powder and lead. And especially not a Dixiecrat, Bible thumping, crony capitalist, good ol’ boy, who isn’t fit to sit in the oval office, let alone occupy the same platform as Charles Durning.

OK Douglas,
Assuming you are a Jew:
“If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?” – Rabbi Hillel
Or maybe you are a Christian.
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40
The time is now and if I’m the only one then it is MY responsibility. I can see that none of the commenters here besides Frank is willing to help me bear my burden. I understand your distress. We can’t bring up these matters now. The R party is on the wrong side of them and if this gets big the Rs could lose an election. So be it. You do what you have to do and so will I. Devil take hindmost.
The quotes are from:

A little ditty I wrote to give folks confidence in our government. Be warned. It is heavy on the Judeo and light on the Christian.
====
A little bit of news. There are Democrats coming here and linking, in order to get ammunition for the upcoming campaign.
I have had more than one of them thank me for giving them such good ammunition. But everything of importance I do is public. So find a counter if you can.
Time is short ladies and gentlemen. You have about 7 days to fix what should have been fixed years ago. Most Unfortunate.
And here we have Viv admitting her party is on the wrong side of the issue:
Why must you attempt to sabotage another political party that has known successes for decades without you?
Not quite as eloquently put as I might have written. But sufficient to prove my point.
There is no way I could sabotage the Rs if they were on the right side of the issue.
And of course by “sabotage” Viv means telling the truth. Strange political standard you have there Viv.
And Viv,
I’m but a small voice in the vast interwebbs. What you have to worry about is Ken Burns and 2 Oct. What are you going to do about that? Rail at me until I shut up? In the name of Party unity?
That will work against Soros, Peter Lewis, Mrs. Kerry, and Mrs Huffington. For sure.
Maybe practicing SHUT UP more and making it louder will work better on them than it has on me. I’m taking bets.
But OK Viv. I’ll bite. I’m not a Republican. Now what? Are all my arguments now of no worth? You wish.
“We had such a fine Party until some uncouth and unvetted nut brought up Drug Prohibition.”
Frank,
This explains better than anything why business is moving off shore:
