From what I can tell the Democrats are going to use Drug War Racism against the right in the next election (it is about all they have – it might be enough). I really love it!!!! My socon friends are going to have to choose between Prohibition and defeating the President. Tough choice. For them. Me? If the Ds run on this I’m all in for them. After all with either party I can only get half of what I want.

I’ll be surprised if the Dems actually use that.
The CBC and the NAACP are not the Democratic party.
But we’ll see.
The Dems have had multiple chances to eliminate this, but they like it just fine.
It gives law enforcement all kinds of power over individuals and if there’s one thing statists like, it’s gov’t power untrammeled by the Constitution.

Why am I so sure the Ds will use this? It fits their playbook. They have nothing else.
BTW you assume they will follow through. I do not.
What I expect is that they will make promises and not deliver. What I’m counting on them for is to change the direction of the conversation.
It will be a chastened Republican Party that will actually make the changes. As usual the Ds will get the credit. Unless the Rs get out front.
I don’t think anybody will make much noise about it.
Especially as the Dems can’t be seen as “weak on crime”, which is what Harry Joe Voter will get from too much talk about it.
Legal drugs=crack and heroin=crime.
People don’t think of “pot” when pols talk about legalizing drugs.
They think “Heroin” which equals addicts which equals crime or they think of Columbian drug cartels making money off of selling legalized cocaine to crazed drug addicts who will then rape their (Harry Joe Voter’s) daughters.
That’s why it’s a loser to talk about it.
As a Libertarian you should be well aware of that.
How is the Libertarian party attacked in the mainstream?
As the party who wants to make heroin and crack legal so they can smoke pot.
Just to refresh your memory, I’m absolutely on your side as far as legalzing drugs.
The gov’t has no right to keep me from hurting myself. It’s not their business.
Plus, ending the drug war would be a huge boon economically.
Not only would they get tax money, they wouldn’t be spending $billions “fighting” it.
But that’s the point for establishment pols. They like the power it gives the gov’t, they like having extra-Constitutional means to fuck with me.

But think of it as an integrated campaign.

I absolutely disagree on that.
Obama has shown repeatedly that he has no idea how anything works. He repeatedly demands stuff, in public, without knowing the answer.
Remember how silly he looked after going hat in hand to ask for the Olympics and Chicago wasn’t even on the short list?
That was at the height of the world-swooning over him.
He does not work well with others. He says what he expects and if they don’t do exactly that, he gets petulant and rude.
It’s nearly impossible to work with him. Why else do you think the Dems kicked him out of the debt ceiling talks?
As for the Dems making the drug war a central theme, nope. Ain’t gonna happen.
I’ll repeat, they cannot look soft on crime in their present, weakened state.
Legal drugs=more crime= Harry Joe American’s sons on drugs and daughters being raped.
If I see it happening, I’ll admit I’m wrong.
If it’s just the CBC and the NAACP, I won’t consider that a “loss”, I’ll need to see ads by Obama or the DNC talking about it.
And that’s not about to happen. No way, no how.

I believe he will be forced to respond to that pressure once the movie “Prohibition” makes it a national issue in early October.
The advantage for Obama is that it will get the libertarians and the socons tearing at each other. There has been a sort of uneasy truce in order to defeat ∅. Why not do something to sow dissension in the ranks of the enemy? I would.
Zero may be a sack of bricks. But he has some very smart people running him. Politically savvy even. Governing is another question. But we are talking the next election here.
Let me mention that Blacks are one of the few pro-prohibition strongholds on the left. With them switching sides it opens the way for Obama to take action. If he wants to.
