This weather makes me understand why people like California despite all the problems.
Here’s the national picture Drudge linked earlier:
Notice that the California coast is absent from the measurements on the Drudge picture. So is the Pacific Northwest….
Here are today’s highs.
Quite predictable to anyone who has lived there. Other people have to put up with scorching heat in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. Not those living on the Pacific Coast where it can be 72 in February or July.
No wonder people hate Californians. I lived there for three decades, and I am jealous of my former self!
I am beginning to suspect that weather can affect outlook on life.

Supposedly we could get a break here tomorrow. The forecast is for a high of 99 which would break our current 21 day streak of 100+.
The closest NWS station to me is at Wiley Post Airport in Oklahoma City; the last day we didn’t reach 100 was the 29th of June, when we had a positively frigid 99.
Which is why I enjoy living in western NC, where the high was 91 while all around it was well over 100,and then the next day was a nice 87. And that’s down in the valleys. Up on the mountains it’s much nicer.
Sometimes I wonder why more Californians don’t move, and then I realize that the relative value of coastal weather is probably actually worth more to a lot of them than the relative cost of terrible government and taxes. Though there’s always a tipping point…
