Why I’d rather write throwaway posts about toads

I haven’t said much about GOP politics, but so far, what I have seen absolutely makes me want to vomit.

First, I don’t like Mitt Romney because he is a classic RINO who favors socialized medicine.

Michele Bachmann is an anti-evolution so-con.

And Rick Perry, while he may be good on economic issues, is no mere so-con. He actually favors sodomy laws. (Meaning he is a bigot who wants to imprison gays for their sexuality.) I may be wrong, but I suspect that’s part of his message when he spouts coded rhetoric like this — clearly intended to fire up red meat conservatives:

Perry turned his fire on fellow Republicans who he accused of hiding from social issues under pressure from Democrats.

“When it comes to conservative social issues, it saddens me when sometimes my fellow Republicans duck and cover under pressure from the left,” he said. “Let’s speak with pride about our morals and our values and redouble our efforts to elect more conservative Republicans. Let’s stop this downward American spiral.”

At a conference that front-runners Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Jon Huntsman avoided, Perry is the closest thing the 2,000 attendees have to a rock star. They treated him as such — when Perry wrapped up, the activists rang the rafters with chants of “Run, Rick, Run!”

If that son of a bitch is the closest thing they have to a rock star, then give me Beethoven.

In all seriousness, these people make me almost as sick as the left does.

I should stick with throwaway posts.

There is an unfilled need for a third political party that is socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I don’t know if the Libertarian Party could transform itself by scrapping ideological rigidity and becoming more inclusive, but it would be worth a try.

They would only need a few big names. People a fed up with both mainstream parties. It’s rigged. Look at where the nominal head of the Republican Party, John Boehner, spent today – partnering with Obama on the golf course.

We are stuck with the two-party system. It cannot be changed. You can only vote for the lesser evil in each election. This almost always means the Republican. Votes for independents like Perot or for Libertarians are votes for Democrats. Not voting is a vote for Democrats. Limbaugh is exactly correct on this point. It has the validity of the Laws of Thermodynamics. It follows from the fact that you do not need a majority to get elected, you only need the most votes.

Bob Sykes, you are right that we haven’t had a successful third party candidate, unless you count Lincoln 150 years ago.

But as M. Simon has pointed out, change is in the wind for a number of reasons:

Aren’t we still just fighting the culture war that started in the 1960’s? I’m sick of it.

The reason it may be time for a third party is the rise of independents, refugees from both parties who have no allegiance, and the under 30 demographic who are predominately socially liberal and without strong party affiliations. This last group is the one being screwed over. They need to be made fully aware just how bad, and how much both sides are to blame.

Rick Perry is no small-government proponent, he’s just another a big-government guy for the right. He’s all about using the machinery of the state against individuals. What’s with Texas and loving the death penalty, and making sure ITS government machinery works on automatic with no chance of substantive review or responsibility?

I’m looking forward to the next “big” porn star. Tad Pole.

“This is Tad. And this is the Tad pole.”

Well I just did this post on Swingers and then you reminded me of the tadpole. And my devious mind went from there.

    Frank,

The plan is to take over the Republican Party from the bottom up.

BTW this post convinces me more than ever that Palin will pick Johnson as her VP.

    ====

The sickness of the Republican Party is the Socons who vote social issues and “overlook” (ignore is more like it – in fact applaud is even closer to the truth) socialist impulses of their chosen when it benefits their interest.

I really hope Palin runs and sweeps the field.

The plan is to take over the Republican Party from the bottom up.

If that is the plan, I hope it works. But I have doubts that even if she wins the nomination somehow, those forces within the party that lose will let her take the presidency. Bloomberg has already staked out ground and a plan for such a scenario. Also, with both Perry and Bachmann vying for the socon vote, what’s left for Palin? Too much bitterness will follow a serious campaign if Palin enters it. You can already see it from Bachmann’s camp.

No, I think the time is as ripe as any in the last 150 years for a reshuffling of the parties. If Palin is as smart as I think she is, she will take this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Also, I don’t think Rick Perry’s candidacy, if he enters, is serious. As a socon, why wouldn’t he just endorse Bachmann instead of dividing the socon vote? I smell a deal. Romney has already offered him the VP spot. Palin, and libertarians are being excluded. You could see the handwriting at CPAC, the nasty one liner’s from Krauthammer about Trump being “the Republican’s Al Sharpton,” and Will’s take down of Palin as not fit to be near “the button” etc. They are scared to death of a solo Palin run. As Rush Limbaugh says about liberals, and it applies to partisan Republicans as well, they show us who they fear by how nasty they treat her.

Palin is certainly smart enough to know how to appeal to the SoCons without staking out extreme SoCon positions; that’s one of the reasons why she is also popular with the gay right (Tammy Bruce and the Hillbuzz folks come to mind). The problem with Palin is simply that she’s been the subject of the two-minute hate so frequently and so repeatedly that all liberals, most so-called “moderates,” many Republicans, and many independents have such strong, visceral reactions to her that they can’t even explain why they feel that way about her. I have no idea how she can possibly overcome that.

As much as I would like to see a viable third party arise, I’m with bob sykes in thinking that we’re stuck with the two-party system for the 2012 election cycle, at least. At this point, I feel confident that Obama will retain enough of a lock on the core Democrat constituencies that any third-party candidate would guarantee his re-election, and to my mind that’s worse than a social conservative like Perry. Our country’s economy cannot withstand it, and that’s just for starters.
