Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your POV, I am not advising Barack Obama. But if I was, I would tell him that right now is an excellent time to make good on his campaign threat to invade Pakistan, and simply go in there and take out that dysfunctional country’s nuclear capabilities.
If he does nothing, there’s a good chance the nukes will fall into the hands of the Taliban, which means of course al Qaeda.
As things stand now, the “government” of Pakistan can barely defend its own military bases:
The brazen attack on a Pakistani naval air base has sent shockwaves through the nuclear-armed country, raising concerns about the military’s ability to protect sophisticated weaponry .
The ease with which six Taliban militants stormed the PNS Mehran base in Karachi, close to the city’s busy commercial airport, and destroyed two newly US-supplied P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft has unnerved Pakistan’s military establishment.
The militants held off security forces for more than 16 hours, killed 12 naval personnel and injured 14. Their primary objective appeared to be some of the military’s most sophisticated electronic warfare equipment, as they wiped out Pakistan’s anti-submarine warfare capability in a single stroke.Ghazanfar Ali, a former brigadier general, said the Taliban attack would “hurt Pakistan’s reputation as a nuclear weapons state” in the eyes of the international community, by emphasising the country’s vulnerability.
Hurt what reputation? The country clearly cannot handle itself.
To appease the left, President Obama can simply say that he believes in nuclear disarmament, and that Pakistan needs it right now, on an emergency basis.
Nation building can wait.

I have the Audacity to Hope the POTUS would do such a thing, but I doubt he would.
I like your phrasing it in terms of Pakistan needing nuclear disarmament- right now.
If we were to do as you suggest, the immediate effect would be to neutralize Iran’s nuclear armed Sunni neighbor.
Iran is racing to enrich uranium with only one thing in mind. It is ruled by a religious crackpot who believes that chaos will usher in the return of the 12th Imam. Iran is a country that sacrificed over 1 million in a war against Sunni Arabs in Iraq. It is building missile bases in Venezuela.
Why is Pakistan more of a threat than Iran? And why is Obama so obsessed with invading it?
“Nuke Pakistan while it will do some good.”
There will be a nuclear war with Muslim fanatics. Our policy is to let them attack us as a surprise.
The question REALLY is surprise to WHOM. Not to some of us…
I saw a blurb on this somewhere on TV yesterday and the first thing I thought was, “They allowed it to happen”.
Pure and simple, I guarantee it.
Someone in the Pak heirarchy wanted those planes and whatever else destroyed and also wanted to teach the meddling Americans on that base who’s boss.
That, and/or payback to the Obama admin for killing Osama without asking permission first (which permission would probably have come a day after Osama moved to new digs).
I don’t know the percentages, but there are a lot of people in the Pak gov’t who are not on our side of the War on (Some) Terror.
