Wasting Trillions Is A Conservative Strategy

I’ll bet you didn’t know that wasting trillions was a conservative strategy. It is. In one of the biggest pork barrel projects in America. The Drug War.

After 40 years, the United States’ war on drugs has cost $1 trillion and hundreds of thousands of lives, and for what? Drug use is rampant and violence even more brutal and widespread.
Even U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske concedes the strategy hasn’t worked.
“In the grand scheme, it has not been successful,” Kerlikowske told the Associated Press. “Forty years later, the concern about drugs and drug problems is, if anything, magnified, intensified.”

Another conservative social engineering failure. Well actually it was started by Progressives, but many Conservatives have fully embraced it. So what do you call a Conservative who embraces Progressive policy?
Confused.

If Carrie Nation were alive today she would not be a “progressive.” She’d be a tea-bagger.

Wars on Vice have always put the lie to America’s commitment to individual liberty.
And guy, while there are bigger fish to fry, the millions of incarcerations attendant on prohibition seem no small thing to the incarcerated. Such tyranny makes high taxes seem picayune.

I take it the $50 to $70 billion a year spent in the USA on the drug war is small change.

Agreed. The “War on Drugs” has been a farce for decades. In many cases, the minimum sentences for trafficking (the threshold amounts are absurdly low) are greater than rape or murder. But let’s put away the poor bastiche who sold two ounces to the local DEA so they could brag about their arrest record.
The irony here is that so many conservatives are all fired up about Federalism … until California tries to decriminalize pot and they go librarian-poo.

Was Harrison behind the Heroin act, a progressive, were the folks behind the Marijuana Act of 1937, that’s yet to be ascertained
