From Reason Online which excerpted this quote from Radley Balko.

SWAT team breaks into home, fires seven rounds at family’s pit bull and corgi (?!) as a seven-year-old looks on.
They found a “small amount” of marijuana, enough for a misdemeanor charge. The parents were then charged with child endangerment.
So smoking pot = “child endangerment.” Storming a home with guns, then firing bullets into the family pets as a child looks on = necessary police procedures to ensure everyone’s safety.
Just so we’re clear.

The video is quite graphic so sensitive dog lovers should avoid it. You sensitive human lovers should be outraged.
Now about that war on some plants.
Yeah. Yeah. I know. Shit happens. But you have to ask yourself – “Is this the kind of shit I want happening over small quantities of pot?” And if not, how do you justify the rest of our National Pot Prohibition Policies? And then once you have the National argument sorted what about your State and Local Governments? Because you get to pay for it. Final question: “Is The Game Worth The Candle?”

Some stoopid fuck (ok, Bruce Sterling, in his nove Islands in the Net) once said thata there is an unhealthy pressure in an unfired bullet.
Put a couple of zeros on the end, and you have a police force with a SWAT team and blue balls.

First they came for the pot smokers . . .
We live in a police state folks. Just because you haven’t been personally effected, doesn’t negate the reality. And if you aren’t outraged by the police officers’ behavior, or angry at the judge who signed the warrant for the raid, or if you felt even for a second the need to rationalize or justify what you just witnessed, then the state propaganda has worked.

The sad reality is that, even if they had mistakenly shot the seven year old child, the police would still feel justified in their actions. Unrestrained power breeds unrelenting contempt for the powerless.

Heard about the drug war in Mexico? Why is that happening? Think America’s drug policy has anything to do with it? We are talking big money here, billions of dollars a year in the US alone. What did it take to get the prohibition of alcohol repealed in the US?
Things are definitely screwed up here, there must be some serious crazy loose in the land, or the drug money has corrupted too many people.

    Sickening.
The use of SWAT teams should be limited to dangerous violent criminals, and police should not be allowed to break down doors to serve warrants involving non-violent crimes.
It is wrong, because innocent people can get killed, pets can get killed, and so can police. (The reason they’re breaking in with such sudden violent force is not protection of officers, but simply to prevent destruction of evidence such as flushing of drugs.)
Unfortunately, that is not the conservative position.
What I cannot figure out is why so many conservatives support the routine deployment of SWAT teams and heavily armed police to kick in doors simply in order to enforce drug laws. What will it take to wake them up? A raid on one of their own houses as a result of a bumbling bureaucratic mistake?
