Both narratives ignore the Chrysler in the room–how Detroit got to where it is today.
If the “ruin porn” industry renders pity without judgement, the acts of Dan Gilbert and others, as well-intended as they obviously are, seek a future for Detroit without acknowledging its past or present. Not once in 60 Minutes‘ coverage did the story’s tele journalism deal with the political causes for Detroit’s decay–a corrupt, one-party institution burrowed like a tick into City Hall.
And yet there is clamor for one party rule.

In israel would the jews like to be ruled by the palestinan minority for a change? I don’t think so! Black people do not want to be ruled by evil republicans either! When fascist republicans took over michigan in 2010 they have done nothing but go after those who lost the election trying to stop african-americans from voting in the next election and preventing their black elected officials from representing them! African-americans do not want to be ruled by republicans any more then jews would like being ruled by anti-semites!

The problem, as I’ve commented to (note capital) Libertarians time and again, is that there are a WHOLE lot of people who just want to obey. “Tell me what to do,” they say – and someone can always be found who will oblige.
As for the inner city blacks…”the devil you know”…and they aren’t really wrong – both sides want to rule. By now, they understand the Dems; Reps would be a whole new thing.
