The government did it! The Tsarnaevs are victims!

For some time now, I have complained about Drudge’s habit of regularly linking notorious conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and Infowars-dot-com.

I don’t know whether it is a good sign or not, but today I see that Drudge has linked a story which expresses some skepticism about Jones.

Jones — whose site has peddled conspiracy theories about the Boston Marathon bombing and suggested that Tsarnaev is innocent — conceded that Tsarnaev “may have actually been a listener.”

“He could be a listener,” Jones said. “It could be true. I’ve talked to the family and most of them are listeners. My show is anti-terrorism and my show exposes that most of the events we’ve seen have been provocateured.”

The AP reported on Tuesday that Tsarnaev “took an interest” in Infowars and was also interested in getting a copy of “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” the anti-Semitic fraud that purports to show a Jewish conspiracy to take over the world.

Jones is claiming that the government has deliberately performed surgery on Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s throat (presumably to keep him from talking):

Jones said that he had spoken with an aunt of the Tsarnaevs on the record and other family members off the record.

“They’re scared to death,” he said. “That whole family is genuinely shocked.”

“They think it’s a setup,” Jones said, adding that “the State Department openly funds radical Islam in Dagestan.”

Jones said the bombing was one of a number of plots “hatched” by the FBI, and Chechen militants, among others, have seized on his claims, which are not supported by evidence, to make the case for a sweeping conspiracy behind the deadly blasts.

He also claimed that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s throat wound had been inflicted by the authorities, calling it “that special throat surgery they did.”

Despite the rank bureaucratic stupidity and inefficiency displayed by the government, I find it extremely unlikely that the government would perform “special throat surgery” to silence the suspect in a major, high publicity case in which they want a conviction, and I think Jones is simply trying to boost his ratings.

Not that it matters much, but FWIW, I think Jones is a supreme horse’s ass, and Drudge ought to be ashamed of himself for linking him.

But I should remember that this is the entertainment business, and they’re probably both laughing all the way to the bank.

ENTERTAINING AFTERTHOUGHT: In all things, I try to remind myself that is always possible that I may be wrong, and that the people with whom I disagree may be right. This includes radical Islamists, who may be right about their God sending me and all Americans to hell, and it also includes the conspiracy theorists who maintain that the government was behind 9/11, the latest bombing, and numerous other events including the Sandy Hook shooting.

If the radical Islamists are right, they are going to paradise and I am going to hell. I’m not OK with having a God like that in charge of the universe, but if he is in fact the way they say, then I guess would rather be in hell.

And if the radical conspiracy theorists are right about the U.S. government staging appalling attacks on its own civilians, then it would follow that the government should be overthrown by force (something I would not enjoy, nor would most people).

If the government was as competent and evil as Jones says it is, it would create Alex Jones to throw people off.

    Through the looking glass, people!

@ Sigivald. Hmmm. Maybe it DID! Sigh.

Sigh. Did God create us to be gullible, or was that some sort of evolutionary advantage?

“The friends I made have slipped and strayed,
And who’s the one who cares?
A trifling lot and best forgot ~
And thats my tale and theirs.

Then if my friendships break and bend,
    Theres little need to cry
The while I know that every foe
    Is faithful till I die.”

Don’t know WHY, but this post reminded me of that poem. (Dorothy Parker, in case you don’t know.) Known for her wit. Or maybe her sarcasm…

Not just Alex Jones, but now Zerohedge:

A false flag operation, just like 9/11. Yeah, right, sure.

    Idiots!

Something I’ve never done, but here is a response I left on a libertarian blog owned by a well known woman author who has given speeches at Libertarian Party Conventions. (I won’t link it.)

With all due respect, you are looking at the forest and not seeing the trees. While the hyper overreaction of law enforcement from top to bottom seems way out of proportion to the event, it is because you are isolating the event and the perpetrators. Looked at that way, and 9/11 seen in the same way, it’s just a horrible crime.

But if it is part of a larger series of terrorist events organized by a radicalized Muslim underground, then it makes sense to a degree. Underlying these isolated “crimes” is the fear that they are stalking horses for the big one, the event that kills millions perhaps. A suitcase bomb set off in the center of a major city or a man made virus unleashed that wipes out many millions.

That is the fear underlying our new police state. You are blinded by righteous hatred of our loss of freedom, but are purposely ignoring what’s driving it. From past writings here you seem willing to always find excuses, the blowback theory. If only WE didn’t involve ourselves in foreign wars, if only WE didn’t kill innocent children in wars that WE started, if only WE didn’t try to run roughshod over every backwater country with oil like Iran or Iraq, then none of this would happen. Makes perfect sense.

But if you really believe that, then you have stepped over the line. Look in the mirror and you may see Jane Fonda staring back.

Eric, if they really profess to believe this, maybe it’s psychological denial, a protective self-defense mechanism because the reality facing this country is too horrible to contemplate.

Dorothy Parker! How I wish we had another!

She would definitely respond to the casting of nitwit, terrorist thug-boys with baseball caps as victims with a “What fresh hell is this?!”

Why do the conspiracy goofs imagine that they are worth conspiring against?

Frank there is fairly good evidence that 9/11 was a drug war operation gone bad. Atta was a drug smuggling pilot. And also look up Rudi Dekkers.

Mohamed Atta and the Venice Flying Circus

What is the “big plan”? I have no idea.

All I can say is that leaving people to their own devices is not part of the plan.

Another who appreciates that unique lady! Indeed she probably would have. And then proceeded to write a poem about it that would have skewered all involved.

I’m not much for poetry – I can quote a bit of Kipling, a bit of Shakespeare, (and The Jabberwock – but who can’t…). I can quote darned near every poem she ever wrote.

Kathy, I have the honor (misfortune?) of having been an English major. One of the few, the proud, the underemployed.

Yes, I love Dorothy, too. It’s probably an indication of my weirdness that my favorite poet is Wallace Stevens.

Simon, there may be no “big plan” in the sense of an organized effort. Maybe just one fanatical Mullah with a few true believers working on a doomsday virus.
Or a couple of Atta’s with a suitcase bomb.
The source is the same – a death worshiping cult on its knees praying to the memory of a psychopath 5 times a day.
