Strait-laced puritans who hate the working class

While it was in the general context of the George Zimmerman case,  Ann Althouse said something about the left that is so true:

It’s really astounding how prissy lefties have become over the years. I remember when folk of the left-wing persuasion loved to delve into Freudian analysis. Now, they’re so strait-laced about sex. They hew to politically required points about sexual/reproductive freedom, but there’s no curiosity, no depth, no originality, no exploration of ideas. So dull!

(Via Glenn Reynolds.)

I can remember when leftists were primarily concerned about “the people.” Especially working class people. No more. They have now officially abandoned the working class and elevate what they call “the environment” over everyone. This means that the working class is to be looked down on — especially if they want to drive cars or live in single family detached houses.

Sometimes I wish I could do something about it. But then, I’m not on the left, so why would I want to fix what I’m not on?

Why? Because they’re 30% of the country, and a very culturally influential 30% to boot.

Eric, I think the way to understand this is that the Left is still primarily concerned about the people, but this means their people. Other people, not so much.

I find the Left erratic in their prissiness. God forbid most straight males attempt to find romance, but their enthusiasm for anal sex seems boundless!

Consider the push for gay marriage. A good case could be made that the subtext consists of imposing conventional moral standards on a once spontaneous and freewheeling bohemian lifestyle. Just sayin…
