David French said on Blither: If cultural conservatism doesn’t have a future, America doesn’t have a future. Sow the wind. Reap the whirlwind.
Of course I responded on a blog that featured the Blather in a comment.
Cultural Conservatism should be a private matter. Alcohol Prohibition was enacted with the help of Cultural Conservatives. And they were the last to give it up. After FDR got elected. Not a sterling performance.

The original David French bit got 3 up votes. So far I have 5.
I’m now far down the thread but with 6 up votes. French is still at 3.
This begs the question, of course.
If not the culture, what are “conservatives” trying to conserve? Some never-was, bizarrely counterfactual hallucination of Washington and Jefferson as open-borders and free-trade enthusiasts?
See also, Tariff Act of 1789, and the 120 years of 20%+ tariffs on foreign goods that followed, that were the principal source of revenue for the US government prior to the income tax. See also, the 60,000 or fewer immigrants per year until the 1830s, when 98.5%+ of the US population was native born.
Heh – I love the war of the videos. I’d give you a plus, but I don’t do disqus.
