Why Policies Don’t Matter

In response to this blog post I had this to say:

It is not just the self serving nature of the politicians. That is to be expected. What is unexpected is that they haven’t even thrown us ordinary people a bone. Not one. Instead they keep the wounds festering so professional political organizations can raise money to “correct the problem”. Which they have no intention of doing since any correction would reduce fund raising.

The result? The people voting in this cycle don’t care about issues.

Trump not a “real conservative”? The people voting for him don’t care.

The Republican Party is not a conservative party. It has had a progressive wing since its founding: Lincoln, the Radicals, T. Roosevelt, Hoover, Wallace, Wilke, Rockefeller, L. Graham, et al. The Republican Party does not oppose a single program of the New Deal or Great Society, which is good for them, because a majority of Americans don’t either.

Trump is a perfectly good representative on a significant fraction of Republicans. People like Glenn Beck are delusional about the nature of the party, and frustrated because of that delusion.

The Republican party is for the Republican party – they’re making no effort to hide it any more. They don’t dare go against the media and the DNC, and they’d rather put someone up who will lose gracefully (Like McCain, Romney and likely Bush) than get the Presidency.

And honestly, I’m not sure I blame them for that attitude. They’ll have to fix a lot of stuff, fighting the media and the DNC every step of the way no matter how badly the fix might be needed – and they’ll be blamed for creating the problem in the first place.

Me too. I was hoping that after almost 16 years of crony capitalist fiscal incontinence we could actually elect a fiscal conservative.

Alas, it wasn’t to be. Save your pennies, kiddies, for Social Security will be broke by 2031 or so, a short 15 years away.

    Won’t that be exciting?

there used to be a lot more conservatives until they lost their good paying union jobs and have become populists bring the republican party kicking and screaming with them.

    CapitalistRoader,

Trump’s plan to lower taxes will probably help. If he can hold the line on spending.

Also cannabinoid medicine fully implemented could reduce the cost of medical care by 25% to 75%. That might go a ways to reducing government costs. Trump is 100% for medical cannabis.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.
