At Samizdata. Which also suggests Why I Am Not A Muslim.

And just for the jokers among us. I did read it all.

Thanks for the link. Great piece. Quite explanatory.

If it’s supposed to be an argument against Islam in general, or against radical Islamists in particular, it would be more effective if it weren’t written largely as an argument for atheism vis-a-vis religion in general. (Frankly, it’s not even a very good argument for atheism if it is aimed at anyone other than the impressionable young).

Presumably, the author is attempting to argue against giving Islam a privileged hands-off intellectual treatment in Western society. He makes some logical arguments against Islam being a particularly peaceful or tolerant religion. But by hinging most of his arguments on a belief in the non-existence of God, the author loses the attention of pretty much everyone he needs to convince.

Eh, I’d be willing the cut the author some slack here. He’s deconstructing Islam and doing a good job of it.

Changing belief systems takes a long time and is as much an emotional process as it is intellectual one. The intellectual part is mainly a logical barricade to try to justify the emotional beliefs that you already have.

Blowing up the barricade is just the first step.

I have often made similar comparisons of Islam to Communism. Communists, Muslims, and Nazis – are all usually harmless as individuals. Let them get up above a quarter of the population however, and real trouble starts. They will try to seize power and install a totalitarian government.

All have absolutely insane beliefs and all want total control of my life.
