It Could Have Been Worse

I was recently discussing the Texas Republican’s mildly anti-gay platform. Some further news on that subject has arrived.

Gay Republicans in Texas said Friday they may stop fighting their party’s proposed endorsement of “reparative therapy” over worries that even tougher anti-gay language could be added to the party platform.

The country as a whole is going in the other direction. And not just on that issue. It is also shifting on the subject of Drug Prohibition.

I do understand that these anti sentiments are prevalent in certain sections of the country. But there is also a national election to consider in 2016. Do the Republicans want to win the Presidency in 2016? Can they think that far ahead? It is especially interesting since the shifts on these subjects is no where near complete. The numbers for the Rs will be worse in 2016 than they are today.

Is two years enough time to pivot on these subjects? Will the Republican base allow it?
