Some Criticism

In an article on the rise of Libertarianism some one in the comments posted this criticism:

“This is the most libertarian generation that has ever existed.”

Probably tue and completely scary. A philosophy based on the writings of an increasingly alienated sociopath, whose hero was a serial killer for his extreme dedication to self-gratification at the expense of anyone who got in his way. The perfect philosophy for post “Conservative Revolution” America.

To which cowboydroid responded:

Karl Marx was not a libertarian.

The cowboy gets some more licks in:

It seems to me that being a libertarian when you are 18 -25 is less a statement of political philosophy and more an indication of the natural narcissism of that time of life.

cowboydroid

Narcissism perfectly describes the current political landscape dominated by megalomaniacs operating within the established political power structure of Democrats and Republicans.

And cowboydroid gets on a theme I have been riding myself:

Mainstream Republicans will ride the failed Drug War to their grave.

This is so obvious you have to wonder why politicians – supposedly into winning elections – are riding it. I think the core reason is that politicians are not (for the most part) really into winning elections. They are into collecting money. And there is still a lot of money around for those who espouse government control of culture.

“…politicians are not (for the most part) really into winning elections. They are into collecting money.”

As anyone who has observed Lyndon LaRouche ought to know. They all know this is the last party, they’re just trying to stuff their pockets on the way out.

The main theme of the Tea Party is that they’re trying to find a way forward that doesn’t destroy the middle class utterly. The rank-and-file Progressives are clinging to Studs Terkel’s politics from the old Haymarket/Cross of Gold days, in the belief that the old rituals will bring back the good times.

Funny you mention Studs Terkel I used to record his show when I worked at WFMT back in ’62 – ’63 (I was going to College at UChicago and got picked up by ‘FMT because I had a Radiotelephone 1st – earned at age 17 1/2 the youngest you could take the test. The Chief Engineer was a UChicago guy.)

Well the problem is that the GOP is no longer a political party but rather a religious movement masquerading as a political party. The socons in the GOP are convinced that if America will just get on board with their social agenda, God will take it as a sign of contrition and He will heal the land.

No. Really. That is what they believe.

“A philosophy based on the writings of an increasingly alienated sociopath, whose hero was a serial killer…blahblahblah..”

Jesus, what are they teaching kids these days anyways? THE ENTIRE US CONSTITUTION IS BASICALLY A LIBERTARIAN MANIFESTO.

But you know, Ayn Rand wrote a book, so let’s ignore a few hundred years of revolutionary political thinking that created a nation that landed a person on the moon.

    I don’t get it.

    Randy, that is bloody stupid.

It’s one thing to argue principles, it’s quite another to argue straw men.

Well, we do know that exposed breasts cause earthquakes. Cuz one of da mullahs said so!

I think it is only exposed FEMALE breasts that cause earthquakes. Probably because of the mass differential. But Man Boobs falsify that conclusion. Hmm, what am I to do when the science contradicts my mullah?
