Reilly, Ace of Spies – Episode 01

I think Reilly was Sam Neil’s best role. This is Episode 01 which deals with Russia. Persia (Iran), and oil. And love affairs. I think YouTube has them through Episode 05. You can find the rest on the ‘net if you look. BTW although he is known as Sidney Reilly, his real name was Rosenbloom. Some think Salomon (Shlomo) Rosenblum and others claim Georgi Rosenblum. A man of mystery. Hardly anything that is known about him may be true. The wiki tells a number of tales. And there have been books. And James Bond was patterned after him. Womanizer and spy. Supposedly he married several times or more without bothering to get divorced. I’m sure even back then divorces were expensive.

The theme music is by Shostakovich from “The Gadfly”. It is called Romance. The version linked features the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Nicola Benedetti on violin, Jirí Belohlávek conducting at the Royal Albert Hall on 8 September 2012.

The game Reilly plays with the head of Baku Police is Trictrac. It has similarities to backgammon. Or Acey-Deucey which was played incessantly in the American Navy when I was a sailor. Me? Well I was a Nuke. We played Bridge.
