Commenter Neil and I were discussing the nature of our current problem and how it related to the problem of 1859. I pointed out that the problem back then was whether or not to keep slaves and our current problem is whether or not to be slaves. A whole different order of problem. Neil suggested the following video as an antidote to my pessimism. Enjoy.
I was a squad leader in Navy boot camp so that one hits home. I did give a few short speeches about wanting to be excellent. But none that good.

P.S. To Simon: yes, I think we will. But only in the long run. First, we’ll have to understand that we are slaves. And with all the lollipops the slavers are offering, that may take some time. (Me, I don’t like lollipops, but many do.)
