I’ve touched on this before, but I have a stubborn math question.
What does “1%” mean? I thought it was a question of math (meaning those in the top 1% of American income levels), but I became a little suspicious when I saw that the OWS people liked Steve Jobs even though he was in the hated 1%.
Now I see that multimillionaire filmmaker Michael Moore — in the top 1% by any reasonable measure — angrily denies that he is in the 1%:
Moore, who has toured OWS sites since the protests began Sept. 17, has angrily defended his wealth.
During an exchange on Piers Morgan’s CNN show, Moore denied he was in the “1 percent” the anti-greed protesters have targeted.
“I need you to admit the bleeding obvious. I need you to sit here and say, ‘I’m in the 1 percent,’ ” Morgan pressed.
“I’m not,” Moore insisted. “I am devoting my life to those who have less and who have been crapped upon by the system.”
Actually, Moore devotes his life to Communism, but the issue here is not what he devotes his life to, but whether he is in fact in the 1% category. Either he is or he isn’t.
Or am I being old-fashioned? Might the left believe in making honorary ideological exemptions?
Like, some in the 1% are not really in the 1%?
And who gets to decide that? George Soros?

It’s just a slogan—not intended for logical analysis, but for political effect.
But but but… the “good” 1% made their money (notice I said made, not “earned”) by dissing the bad 1% by exposing their hypocrisy and exploitation of the potentially-unionized “worker”; plus that portion of the 99% that still clings to “guns” and “religion”…
…oblivious to the fact that the good 1% have their own “guns” and “religion”, i.e. state-sanctioned violence against non-believers and watermelon gaia-worship.
The “bad” 1%, on the other hand, run businesses and employ the ingrate 99%, and allow them the tools, wealth and free time to twittattack the bads, oblivious to the fact that without the “bad” 1%, they wouldn’t have a pot to p*ss in.
Ideology trumps everything.
Women, as an oppressed group, trump men, particularly in any matter dealing with sexuality… except when a man of the proper ideology uses gross sexual insults concerning a woman of improper ideology. (See Sarah Palin, female newscasters and commentators on Fox, etc.) Then it’s fine. If pressed, the ideologists will end up explaining that the target isn’t really a woman.
Black people, as an oppressed group, trump white people, particularly in any matter dealing with race… except when a white person of the proper ideology uses gross racial insults against a black person of improper ideology. (See Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, etc.) Then it’s fine. If pressed, the ideologists will end up explaining that the target isn’t really black.
Etc.
So Michael Moore makes all his films at cost and with minimal salary? Who would have guessed?
