Congress On Cannabis Legalization

Legalization is now a matter of “when”. and that will be soon.

The hearing, titled “Marijuana Laws in America: Racial Justice and the Need For Reform” was conducted by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.

It featured testimony from a number of legalization advocates that stressed out the difficulties faced by cannabis businesses and consumers, despite the fact that more than half of U.S. states have legalized cannabis to some degree.

“It is imperative that we recognize the disparate and ongoing impact of marijuana prohibition on people of color and the barriers it creates for them to take part in the burgeoning legal cannabis market,” Aaron Smith, executive director of the National Cannabis Industry Association, said in a statement.

The need to remove cannabis from the Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act was also highlighted as a necessary step.

“Clearly, the Schedule 1 status of marijuana is intellectually dishonest and has been scientifically debunked. The prospect of maintaining marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act is sheer lunacy in the 21st century,” said NORML Political Director Justin Strekal.

You will note that this news has not been covered on any of the major news sites. Could it be because Rs and Ds mostly agree on the issue?

Pot is supposedly legal here in California now, as it is in several states like Colorado, Oregon, & Washington. However, large corporate commercial growers have politicians in their pay, including Gov. Newsom and the state legislature. They are using county code violations as a way to stop all home grows, including medical. Here is a sample of how they’re doing it.

It’s far worse now than before legalization. They won’t permit any outdoor grows. The county codes are written to virtually eliminate compliance, requiring indoor grows with filters to eliminate odors from escaping, impossible setbacks from roads and neighbors, and 24 inspection from county code enforcers – without prior notice. The grow structures must meet county building codes making them very expensive to build. In addition they are restricted in size and lighting is limited to make it as difficult as possible.

The old Emerald Triangle in Humboldt County is even worse than the Sierra foothill areas. Any greenhouse is automatically an excuse for an abatement order with the owners having to prove they are innocent. All this without search warrants being issued.

Real Gestapo stuff. You think the Feds legalizing it will help? You’re dreaming Simon. Follow the money – right down to the investors in Silicon Valley. And forget about your rights. It’s a farce.
