Weaponizing The DOJ

A lot of fans of Trump are going on about the weaponization of the DOJ against him. What I’m missing is those same fans speaking out when it was weaponized against liberals.

“Look, we understood we couldn’t make it illegal to be young or poor or black in the United States, but we could criminalize their common pleasure. We understood that drugs were not the health problem we were making them out to be, but it was such a perfect issue…that we couldn’t resist it.” – John Ehrlichman, White House counsel to President Nixon on the rationale of the War on Drugs.

We understood that drugs were not the health problem we were making them out to be.

The government knew then. And the people have been aware of Ehrlichman’s statement since at least ’94. Where was the outcry?

We will never get honest government until we have an honest people. I’m not seeing it.

“We will never get honest government until we have an honest people. I’m not seeing it.”

And you probably never will. People want what they can get.

The Republicans are married to the War on (Some) Drugs because of Nancy Reagan’s “Just say no” campaign.

TO abandon the war on drugs, to admit that the war on drugs was a bad idea honed to perfection (as only the government can manage) would be to tarnish the Reagan legacy.

And the people in local .gov and law enforcement LOVE the idea of being able to take money and property. (It’s for the children! It’s keeping people safe from drugs! It supports the law!

Besides, people in government want to control your life. The Democrats want to control some things. The Republicans want to control you in other ways.

They both really hate individual action, and individual responsibility. They have to control how you live. And how you think. They just have different ideas about what they want to control.

And “People” are not aware of that statement from Ehrlichman. You are. I am. Most people who read this blog are aware.

But a sizeable percentage of the American public have never heard of the holocaust. And most Americans have never heard of the Holodomor. (Or want to believe that the hallowed New York Times conspired to keep them in the dark about Stalin starving/freezing millions of Ukrainians, who objected to Communism.)

Hillary C’s book is titled “Stronger Together.” The party symbol of the Italian Fascists was the fasces – a bundle of small rods lashed together to form the handle of an ax. “Strength through Unity.” And Hillary’s book title isn’t even ironic.

No one is aware of history at all. Hell, they don’t even teach history anymore, because you might learn something about the forms of government that don’t work. Like how Communism killed millions of people in China and Russia and Ukraine. Or what happens, typically, when people stop paying attention in a democracy.

Is the Deep State so very different from the Praetorian Guard of the Roman Empire? If you don’t know who that is, or what they did, how can you answer that question?

This is the same as going on about the civil rights marches of 50+ years ago. What is happening today. Don’t forget history, but don’t let it be used to excuse current misbehaviour. js
