men with guns run china. men with money (lobbyists) can buy politicians to make any worker unemployed. in the last election your libertarian economic conservatism was put to a vote and lost, when the free trader donors couldn’t buy the republican nomination for their designated stooges as democrat donors bought it for clinton to stop sanders. until you can answer the question how does a worker who has lost his job to subsidized foreign production pay for their cheeper goods you free traders will continue to lose. and selling dope to them is not the answer though many unemployed workers have died from it. wisconsin ohio michigan pennsylvania.

“put to a vote and lost”

That is no way to run science. Or even accounting.

They could try learning a new skill.

I started as a bench technician and became an aerospace engineer.

I admit such a plan requires diligence and effort.

simon they can also try tariffs. also so when is subsidizing steel and aluminum science or even accounting. the only way milton freidman got a nobel prize his rich friends had to buy it for him by setting up a phony nobel prize in economics spread some walking around money to set it up!

    Some counterpoints:

    >Why is steel so important? Let’s look where steel -was- produced in our country. These cities are blue strongholds, still, and many are located around areas of poor minorities, since mills closed and wealth left the area.
    >If Trump brings these people back in to work he can effectively eliminate blue-collar/poor black democrat areas.

    >What if the steel used for military-grade projects was made-inferior by our enemies as a method to weaken?
    >What if Hussein knew and authorized?

You can’t even trust the Japanese anymore. God only knows what they put in the toyota I bought last year.

The nature of humanity being what it is, I gotta pay for the steelworkers regardless, either in the form of protection money (police to keep the unemployed rabble at bay), protection money (welfare, unemployment,SSDI scammers), or protection money (tariffs). I’ll take door #3 which at least comes with some steel.

    Red Spy,

The oil industry is not important?

I approve the tariffs as long as every steel user in the country can get an exemption.

Auto companies deserve the help. They employ a lot of people.

If the government thinks steel is so important they should subsidize it or start their own mills.

    That should work well.

Socialism all around is the way to go innit?
