His daughter and I started work for a firm in St. Louis on the same day in 1985. She said he wasn’t much of a father. She seemed more embarrassed than proud. In the intervening years, the things I learned about Chuck Berry and the public scandals that surfaced surrounding him made me understand why she felt that way.

Personally, I’ve always been ambivalent about Berry’s music. He was old news by the time I was born nearly 60 years ago. There’s no denying his impact however.

Indeed, he will. Not only in his own music but in all those he inspired. May he rest in peace.

john lennon and stevie wonder both said another name for rock and roll was chuck berry.he was father of rock and roll both in the good and bad ways. his song maybelline was his interpitation of an old bob wills and the texas playboys hit. I lack the ability to put it up here. rock and roll is the joining of rhythm and blues and country and western music of which bessie smith/ elvis presley you aint nothin but a hound dog best example.
