The Bible is hate speech, as is the Quran, and so what?

I’m getting more than tired of arguments over whether the Bible (in this case the Leviticus condemnation of “lying with man as woman”) is hate speech.

Let’s assume that this woman — and all people who raise religious objections to homosexuality — are religious bigots. So what? Religious bigotry is nothing new. (Just ask the Islamists.)

And for the sake of argument, let’s assume “God” (whoever the fuck he is) actually wrote the texts condemning homosexuality.

Who the hell is God? If God is a being, and the being who wrote these texts or inspired them, does not God have the same free speech rights as humans? OK, so God is said to have made Man in his own image. What has that to do with free speech?

And what has “hate” to do with it? Assume “God” in fact “hates” “fags.”

So what? In a free country (assuimg there is such a thing), are they not free to hate each other?

What is freedom?

I’d say if there is God, he’s got a lot of splainin to do.

And if there isn’t, well, splain away if you can!

How tedious can we get?

God help me.

    Thanks for the link love.

Totally ironic on so many levels.

I’m LOL – only because there is very little I can do. Gallows humor.

The actual text of the Bible does contain those words, like it or not. If one views the Bible as a historical or mythological text, it shouldn’t be a big deal. I’m as free to ignore the Bible as I am to ignore Gilgamesh or the Homeric Hymns. It’s religionists who reify their pet Big Book of Tribal Mythology who are the problem. And that appears to be not nominal Christians, but followers of Mohammad. Actions, not words are what’s important. And, there’s a categorical difference between refusing to cater a gay wedding and hanging gays from cranes or pushing them off buildings. Fecebook is just another pile of ignorant leftist computer geeks with no sense of history, so why does anyone bother, anyway?

The Old Testament is the most valuable historical text in the world. 19th Century British archaeologists made their names just read the OT, used landmarks to find the sites of ancient cities and battlefields – and started digging.

And Schliemann found and dug up Troy by reading the Iliad.

“And Schliemann found and dug up Troy by reading the Iliad.”

Indeed. The Old Testament is by no means the only history.
