Newt Predicts

Newt Gingrich expects to see a political realignment next year. He expects the outcome to look like this:

“You know, six months later, I think what you will see emerge is a bipartisan Trump majority, which will actually shake some of the more conservative Republicans and some of the more partisan Republicans.”

I could see this happening. Especially if Trump ends Federal cannabis prohibition. The Republican Liberty caucus already works with the Democrats on this issue. And they prevail – on this issue. One example is the Rohrabacher–Farr medical marijuana amendment.

Well, I just found out my brother, who has been voting Democrat practically forever, voted Trump this year (yes, it took me a while to get up the nerve to mention politics – we’ve long had a truce -don’t ask, don’t tell – on politics). Oh, and he’s nowhere near flyover country and has a good job.

So, yeah – that bipartisan support is a distinct possibility.

The Repubs should change the symbol of the GOP from an elephant to a rhino in honor of RINO PE Trump. LOL

As I’ve said before, I don’t think Trump cares about the social issues in the same way as the socons do. They will be disappointed. But IMO, the socons need to put a sock in it as the nation is socially liberal and that is unlikely to change.

Move on, as some would say.

With legalization sweeping the states, it is only a matter of time that they drag congress along behind them, albeit with no small amount of kicking, scratching and black heel marks. It is only a matter of time before the drug wars are ended at least inside the national border as that power is returned to the many states. The feds then can concentrate on defending the external borders to whatever level congress tells them to. Merry Christmas to one and all and Cheers –

Sorry, but I don’t see it. I think the Democrats will take a leaf out of the Republican’s book and further drive a wedge between the two groups in the country. You can already see that happening. When Trump says he’d not consider the results of the election valid unless he won, he was (according to Dems) insane and vile and stupid. When Hillary said the same thing, she was merely being rational and reasonable. Can’t win via the established process? Doesn’t bother the Democrats–just ignore the process and declare that an irrelevant number (popular vote) is all that matters! Constitution? What’s that? Then there are things like Slate.com (Bad Astronomy still has some good stuff when he focuses on his actual area of expertise), where they are actively calling for opposition to Trump. Never mind the fact that when Fox News challenged Obama he threatened to shut them down, in violation of the First Amendment!

While some of the Democrats in office may support Trump, I think most will cowardly pander to their constituents by opposing him not on principle, but to win votes. They’ll continue doing everything they whined about Republicans doing.
