We is too many people. USA citizens mostly owe money to other USA citizens. It is a distribution problem.

Also many interest rates are below the rate of inflation. The real negative about Gov. (fed,state and local) debt is that you can only tax so must.
Even as far as US debt held by foreigners US citizens earn more on our holding than they earn on their US holdings, so given time we accumulate their assets.
