That’s right – it’s not blaming everything on eeevil America(ns)

america is the greatest country on earth thanks to liberals and in spite of conservatives trying to turn the country into ameriKKKa. john brown shows you what americans can do when they really try and are told nothing can be done.
Yes, it does Kathy. Shame on those who view everything thru ideological glasses.
I like it because :
1) I grew up with it
2) It’s of an age when most of the music was about 2 person love
3) it has at least some harmony
4) it’s doo-wop
My high school had a talent show. Most of the acts were pretty good but the one that brought down the house was a black group singing “Oh little girl of mine”
and “Church bells may ring”. 11 (yes, eleven) encores. The teachers didn’t understand, being from the big-band era, but we sure did.
I guess I’m just lost in the past; the only other music that drives me wild was written before the middle of the 19th century (Beethoven, Bach, Mozart et al).
Thank you, Simon for posting these and making me (and apparently Kathy) smile.

Indeed it did; the human voice is amazing.

P.S. If you like acapella, Try looking up Straight No Chaser. Not only are they harmonic, they’re funny.

Recommended: The Lion Sleeps Tonight A song everyone likes to hate – but this is a bit different.
I’ve heard the original recording by an African singer that Pete Seeger ripped off and took credit for. What always bothered me about “in the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight”, lions don’t live in jungle, they live on the veldt. Tigers like jungle, but they don’t live in Africa. Maybe an extra large leopard. The ginormous leopard sleeps tonight?

Sounds to me like Captain Dear Captain is playing devil’s advocate. In one comment he disparages a black artist and praises some white artists. In a subsequent comment he praises John Brown.
BTW, one of John Brown’s cohort at Harper’s Ferry was in my family tree. First cousin of a great-grandmother.

This one works, too.
