What’s up with Soros?

Assuming this report (that George Soros is behind the growing anti-Trump protest movement) is true, I have a simple question.

Why does George Soros want to help the Trump campaign? Surely he is intelligent enough to know that these protests are exactly what Trump wants, that they are helping energize his base, and give Trump a heaven-sent opportunity to excoriate the left while being a victim.

What gives here? Does Soros want Trump to be the GOP candidate in the hope he’ll lose against Hillary?

Or might he want Trump to be president?

(I’d like to know what he’s buying and what he’s selling or selling short….)

MORE: Democrat activists are already drooling over a Trump candidacy. From an email (from Democrat PAC ActBlue) that’s going around:

Dear Supporter,

The GOP knows Trump is likely to be a disaster in the general election, so they’re shifting their money to the races they think they can still win.

Republican business groups and operatives are hard at work to raise funds aimed at protecting the GOP majority in Congress. And mega-donors are happy to oblige, funneling money to super PACs in an all-out effort to protect down-ballot candidates.

If Trump does win the nomination it would give Democrats the opportunity to win back seats at all levels, but this election has been completely unpredictable. Republican donors aren’t going to sit back and let Democrats sweep the election. They’re going to put up a huge fight for those down-ballot races.

We could absolutely win big this year, but billionaire backers will be at the ready with the resources Republicans need to beat their opponents. Democrats are relying on ActBlue’s tools and small-dollar donors like you to power them through this election. Will you chip in $5 a month?

I guess it wouldn’t look good for Soros to donate directly to Trump. But funding demos that help him are an in-kind contribution, and help Trump more than money would. Where are the anti Citizens United activists when you need them?

AND MORE: Quite predictably, Trump is using the Soros machinations to his advantage. From a Trump fundraising email:

Leftists Are Inciting Violence At Trump Rallies! It Is Crucial That Conservatives Everywhere Stand Up To The Leftist Thugs!

The leftist thugs at Trump rallies must be stopped. The extreme violence is harmful to political discourse and public safety. Liberals can’t debate and instead have resorted to punching and kicking patriotic Trump supporters. Conservatives cannot be intimidated by leftist thugs! Will you help defend Donald Trump from the vicious leftist attacks? Your contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000, or more is vital for spreading Donald Trump’s conservative message and standing strong against the leftist terrorists. ;

The political class is working with leftist domestic terrorists to defeat Donald Trump. Big donors are funding efforts to bus in leftist thugs and attack conservatives. The establishment will do anything to attack Trump! ;Will you help fight back? Grassroots conservatives must stand together in support of Donald Trump!

The establishment is scared! They know that Americans are catching on to their lies and deceitful tactics. The politics as usual crowd is terrified that Donald Trump will end their shameful crimes against the American people. Millions of dollars from Super PACs are being spent to air vicious advertising attacking Donald Trump’s record, family, and character. If grassroots conservatives don’t defend Donald Trump from the vicious smear campaigns, he could lose the nomination. ;Will you help fight back against the vicious attacks and stand strong with Donald Trump? ;Your contribution of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000, or more is crucial for voter outreach and advertising. Your support can help Donald Trump lock up the nomination and focus on defeating Hillary Clinton.

Nowhere in the email is there a single word of thanks to Soros. Such ingratitude!

The prospect of Donald Trump in the White House frightens me, but I am not convinced he is unelectable. There are a lot of angry voters in Rust Belt states who are mad at the leaders of both parties for free trade agreements that they blame for the loss of millions of good-paying industrial jobs in the U.S. They don’t want to have to compete with factory workers in southeast Asia who get paid $10 a day and with no fringe benefits. Since the passage of NAFTA, 50,000 factories have closed in the U.S.

This really helps Hilliary in the primaries – all those geeks jumping up and down yelling “Ber-Nie!” Doesn’t look good – too much George McGovern and Abbie Hoffman.

Then Bernie is too stupid to renounce these protesters acting in his name.

The establishment GOP is not too fond of Trump:

I think that is a LOT of the motivation for his “supporters”.

I don’t consider myself a Trump supporter. He is incoherent on policy. But pissing off the eGOP (elite GOP) has its own value.
