Libertarianism Is Two Year Old Stuff

Two year olds get it – “mine, mine, mine” and “don’t hurt me”.

A more apt description would be, “leave me the fuck alone already.” or “Don’t Tread on Me.” Another good one is “Go away, you bother me.”

capass, in all the the years that I followed Ayn Rand, through the Objectivist Newsletter, The Objectivist, her speeches at the Ford Hall Forum, throughout her many nonfiction books and lectures, not once in all those years did I ever encounter a hint of adulation or even a remark about William Edward Hickman.

Just were in the fuck did you find the name, the reference to that person, let alone any hint on her part that she admired a killer? Was it from Chris Sciabarra who tried his best to link Rand with Nietzshce? While in her early years she did have a brief philosophical flirtation with Friedrich Nietzsche, at the time she was formulating her philosophy and found certain aspects of his thinking similar to hers. It was nothing more.

People like you will purposely ignore the bulk of her work and focus on brief links to discredit a genius. My thinking on it is that what you really want to condemn is her Jewish ancestry but you don’t have the balls to be out with it.

I’ve followed the same line you mimic over at zerohedge.com where the blog master has finally started banning Jew haters and other assorted cretins. Too bad Eric is so tolerant.

And btw, Lenin was Jewish, capass.

    Frank – See here.

Though Mr. Arizona is being deeply unfair to Rand – “In these notes, Rand describes Hickman as “a purposeless monster” who had been “a brilliant, unusual, exceptional boy” and she speculates about the social conditions that lead him to develop as he did.

Rand wanted the protagonist of her novel to be “A Hickman with a purpose. And without the degeneracy. It is more exact to say that the model is not Hickman, but what Hickman suggested to me.””.

Exactly what a “Hickman with a purpose and withing the degeneracy” might be is unclear, naturally.

But if you remove the “degeneracy” (the kidnapping and (presumed) torture and murder) you’re not left with “Hickman” in any relevant sense to the rest of us, are you?

(Rand is, of course, generally irrelevant, especially to libertarianism as opposed to her little Objectivist cult.)

Sig, thank you for the link. Rand’s “connection” to Hickman is pretty far removed: what Hickman suggested to me could mean anything.

As to Rand being irrelevant to libertarianism, not really, although she disavowed any influence or relationship whatsoever. Most libertarians, Rand Paul for instance, have read at least some of her works and often quote her.

As to the cult thing, you are right. In her attempt to have a perfect closed system she ended up a control freak.

Correction to above: should read Ron/b> Paul, not Rand.
